BIRO QUARTET/BUDAPEST PLAY HAYDN / DVORAK MEGA RARE LIONS CLUB PRIVATE LP
BIRO QUARTET/BUDAPEST - Joseph Biro (1st violin) / Frigyes Goitein (2nd violin) / Laszlo Vámos (viola) / Lajos Frank (cello). The Biro Quartet, founded in Budapest in 1946, have always had the same lineup, except for the cello position, which had Laszlo Varga (USA), György Fejér (Hungary) and finally Lajos Frank (Hungary). In December 1956, due to the political problems on his native country, first violinist Joseph Biro moved to Austria and then to Rio de Janeiro where he settled for some time. The record offered here is a Mega Rare Private Recording made in Rio de Janeiro in the 1960’s and sponsored by The Lions Club of Rio de Janeiro. The recording and pressing quality is not of the highest rate (this is a semi-professional private recording), but the music playing is from another world. Joseph Biro was one of the greatest violinists of his time and could be considered one of the most underrated violinists of the last century. The selections on this album are the following: Haydn: String Quartet in G major, Op. 77 No. 1 / Dvorak: String Quartet in F major, Op. 96 American. RARE AS RARE CAN BE! - Cover Condition: VG+ (some edge/corner wear, small missing paper, some creases; please note: the upper and lower seams are normally split) / Record Condition: VG+ (some light surface marks/hairline scratches; plays well with some not too disturbing background moderate ticks/click; occasional repetitive pops).
