Description
This is a very interesting album produced in 1974 or 1975 by Pemon Rami. It is the soundtrack to a musical drama titled "Black Fairy' held in the La Mont Zeno Theater, Chicago, Illinois. The album itself is in excellent condtion and has a high sheen to it's surface and showing minimal if any wear. There are a set of vague outlines on each side of the album where the inner paper sleeve was folded over and instead of being left on the outside was folded into the inside leaving what looks like faint lines illustrating a 90 degree angle. I did not want to wipe them in fear of damaging the record, but it looks like the lines, faint as they are, could be cleaned off very easily. The album itself is a musical drama about 'a Black Fairy who lacks pride in herself and feels she has nothing to offer Black Children. But when she meets Black Bird and Queen Mother [she begins to get a better understanding of her heritage.]' At end of her journey the "Black Fairy realizes that 'being Black is nothing to be ashamed about.'
The Black Fairy was the second play at the LaMont Zeno Community Theater and was a cultural program of the Better Boys Foundation. The play itself was performed for over 4,000 children in Chicago during the summer of 1974 and over 2,000 in Detroit at Mercy College in April of 1975.
