Black Oak Arkansas

'High On The Hog'

Atlantic, UK, 1973

K 40538

THEY MIGHT be an acquired taste, for sure, but there's no getting away from the fact that Black Oak Arkansas made their mark in a huge way during the early seventies. Leader Jim Dandy has an amazing gutteral voice (sounds like he's been drinking Listerine since the age of 5) and his signature swagger is unmistakable. Place that voice into songs about the south and you've got a molotov cocktail of raging tetosterone that outshines the competition by several miles.

This was their fourth album so you can be rest assured that the energy level is still cranked up high - this is a band that wants to rock and with Dandy at the helm who would argue the point. Nine tracks on offer with titles like 'Swimming In Quciksand', 'Back To The Land', 'Happy Hooker', 'Red Hot Lovin', 'Moonshine Sonata', 'High N' Dry'and the brilliant 'Jim Dandy'.

Interestingly the record is a UK pressing but housed in a USA cover - a common practice back in the early seventies to cut printing costs.
