An Audio Archive Copy!

Another from my personal collection! This album was purchased from new when released in 1983 and never played until before this listing! The vinyl looks as new in my opinion. The vinyl has always been stored separated  from the sleeve and cover to prevent wear or damage this is how I have always stored my records. There is just minor storage wear to the 1st issue cover as described below. The album is an audio archive copy never need to upgrade from this 1st issue UK copy! Incredible for 30 years old!

Born Again is the eleventh studio album by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in August 1983. It is the only album the group recorded with lead vocalist Ian Gillan, best known for his work with Deep Purple. The album has received mixed reviews from critics, but was a commercial success upon its 1983 release, reaching No. 4 in the UK charts as well as the top 40 in the United States.

Initially the project which became Born Again was intended to be a new supergroup; they did not intend to bill themselves as Black Sabbath. Don Arden, the band's manager at the time, insisted on the group using the recognisable Black Sabbath name.

Born Again is the only Black Sabbath album to feature vocalist Ian Gillan. After parting ways with lead vocalist Ronnie James Dio, Black Sabbath considered many possible replacements such as Robert Plant (formerly of Led Zeppelin) and David Coverdale (Whitesnake, formerly of Deep Purple), before settling on Gillan. The band even received an audition tape from a then-unknown Michael Bolton. Guitarist Tony Iommi told Hit Parader magazine in 1983 that Gillan was the best available candidate, saying "His shriek is legendary." Gillan was at first reluctant to work on the project, but his manager later convinced him to meet with Iommi and Geezer Butler. Iommi and Butler met with Gillan at The Bear public house in Oxford and, after a night of heavy drinking, Gillan officially committed to the project in February 1983.

Born Again also featured the return of founding member Bill Ward on drums, who was newly sober. Ward has said that he enjoyed making the album. It is, to date, the last Black Sabbath studio album to feature Ward.

Black Sabbath began recording the album in May 1983 at The Manor Studio. Producer Robin Black had previously worked with the band in the mid-1970s, serving as engineer for the album Sabotage. During recording, Gillan returned from a local pub one evening, took a car belonging to drummer Ward, and commenced racing around a go-cart track located on the Manor Studio property. He crashed the car, which burst into flames after he escaped uninjured. He wrote the album's opening track "Trashed" about the experience. The song "Disturbing the Priest" was written after a rehearsal space set up by Iommi in a small building near a local church received noise complaints from the resident priests.

The album's cover was produced cursorily by Steve 'Krusher' Joule, based on a black-and-white photocopy of a baby photo published in a 1968 magazine. Martin Popoff described the creature on the cover as a "garish red devil-baby". Bill Ward has said that he personally hated the album's cover and according to him, Ian Gillan told the press that he vomited when he first saw the cover. However, Tony Iommi approved the album cover. The cover has been considered one of the worst album covers ever. Ben Mitchell of Blender called the cover "awful". The British magazine, Kerrang!, ranked the cover in second place, behind only the Scorpions' Lovedrive, on their list of "10 Worst Album Sleeves in Metal/Hard Rock". The list was based on votes from the magazine's readers. NME included the sleeve on their list of the "29 sickest album covers ever".
Black Sabbath's manager, Don Arden, was quite hostile towards the band's ex-vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, who had recently married his daughter Sharon. Arden was fond of telling Osbourne that his children resembled the Born Again album cover.

The album was released in October 1983 and was a commercial success. It was the highest charting Black Sabbath album in the United Kingdom since Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973) and became an American Top 40 hit. Despite this, it became the first Black Sabbath album to not have any RIAA certification in the US.The album was released in October 1983 and was a commercial success. The Matrix
Side1 "VERL 8 A#1"
Side 2 "VERL 8 A#1"

The labels.

The original Custom Vertigo labels are in awesome condition! (These look as new condition in my opinion)!   Amaizingly there is no spider marks or no signs that this has ever been played at all, even when angled to the light, and of coarse (no) spindle ware   This has only ever been played one time by me only to play grade for this listing. So rare  for an album that is over 30 years old! Impossible to find like this! very very collectable!

The vinyl.

The vinyl is absolutely superbe! On initial visual inspection this looks like new Near As Mint in my opinion! and still retains its sheen from new  and is free of any warping and lays flat on he turntable. (please note this vinyl has only ever been  played by me personally one time! in the last 30 years this has been stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the sleeve and cover to prevent ring wear and damage This is how I have always stored my records In fact even when I look at the playing surface angled to a strong light I can't see a blemish at all. There are no audio sounding marks or blemishes that I can see at all! This looks  as un played in my opinion! Any marks that could possibly be seen would be sleeve removal only but again ,I find it hard to see any at all!

The Audio Quality

I have played this through track for track prior to listing at very very loud volume on a top system! The moment the needle hits the playing surface it is obvious this vinyl has never been played at all in my opinion!  The audio quality is as you would expect from a vinyl that has barely been played, superbe, TOP, TOP, TOP! crystal clear and extremely vibrant through out in fact this plays as a new vinyl would sound in my opinion! Points to note! It is easy to be critical about these early eighties pressings. Please note that this vinyl has been laying dormant in a case since I purchased it and will need a constant clean before each play to reduce any static or crackle.    This played through as perfect as it gets unbelievable audio separation, that I haven't heard like this before and stunning bassey feel throughout almost cd. quality on my systems! This vinyl has been stored separately from the cover in a poly sleeve for all of its storage life! This is the way I always  have stores my records! The audio on this pressing in my opinion is almost as good as it gets for a very early and the 1st pressing! Even in between tracks this is almost quiet with just light static due to needing a constant cleaning in my opinion !  This is the   I would class myself as highly critical and this is a truly exceptional sounding vinyl and 11th EVER ALBUM RELEASED  by this awesome band ''black sabbath'' and so hard to find the earliest 1st pressing like this! Please check my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to near as mint through out!

Please note! That i always make this disclaimer! That although I never heard any loud clicks or pops during the play of this record please allow for the odd static/ tick , certainly not consistent throughout the audio, but this is a genuine 30 year old vinyl that would have been played on a 30 year old system!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 30 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves from laying dormant causes static crackle\ticks! A constant clean before each play is recommended ! This would reduce any static and enhance the audio quality! There was isolated light static tick heard which will be reduced if cleaned each time before play. The vinyl has only been ever played one time by me!

The Record Sleeve

This is the original flimsy thin paper lyric record sleeve no splits or tears very light creasing only and has always ben stored separately from the vinyl for protection!

The Cover

This is the original and earliest 1st UK press un- laminated cover! These flimsy type 1st issue covers are dificult to keep in good condition! Rare to find without ring wear No nasty creases on the front very very minor thumb crease to mention but certainly not noticed unless looked for in strong light. In fact any storage wear or rubbing is minimal and you have to look for to notice in my opinion. On close scrutiny there is very light wear at the bottom edge from the vinyl protrusion which you have to look for to notice in my opinion.   Rare to find in this awesome condition super straight in  general appearance (see photos) . All text is fully legible at the spine.  Truly remarkable for 30 years old!   I would grade the cover at least excellent if not better!

Audio Archive copy vinyl looks unplayed Collectors audio copy!
