It is my pleasure to offer for sale a superb example of the third studio album by BLACK SABBATH titled “MASTER OF REALITY”, Catalogue Number 6360 050. This is an ORIGINAL 1971 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the highly collectable VERTIGO SWIRL RECORD LABEL, with a LAMINATED EMBOSSED “BOX STYLE” HOWARDS PRINTERS (SLOUGH) LTD. SLEEVE. Complete with the original Vertigo Swirl inner sleeve with “06 71” printed date text and black background. [The vinyl matrix numbers are the earliest 6360050 1Y//1 and 6360050 2Y//1].
SLEEVE
The sleeve is in close to EX condition. Unlike most examples it retains its original box shape with only minimal flattening. There are a few short creases near the edges and some laminate lift near the left edge. It is otherwise a very well preserved sleeve indeed.
VINYL
The vinyl is in EX+/MINT- condition. It’s a nice solid pressing which retains its “just pressed” shine. The Vertigo Swirl labels are like new with only a few short spindle traces each side. I can confirm that the record has only received a few careful plays on top end hifi.
PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT
Both sides play EX+ throughout. There are no loud pops, repeat clicks, hiss, distortion or anything else (just the lightest touch of residual surface sound which is not at all intrusive and only audible in the linking grooves and during the few quiet passages). The sound quality is truly outstanding – very powerful and dynamic with great bass. I think that it will be very difficult to find another 1st press copy of this standard.
The correct black background Vertigo Swirl inner sleeve is in unmarked EX condition.
This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a superb 1st press copy of Sabbath’s brilliant third album on the highly collectable Vertigo Swirl label.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My grading is strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.
All records can be expected to rotate sufficiently evenly on the turntable for there to be no effect whatsoever on the audio playback. Minor warps or dishing will not be mentioned as virtually all records display these features to some degree and no record is perfectly flat. Vinyl is not a perfect medium for sound reproduction, and all vinyl records from the 1960s/70s period were pressed with some degree of residual surface sound, albeit minimal in most cases. Please bear this in mind when bidding.
PACKAGING
LPs are packaged with care and well protected to ensure that they arrive safely in the same condition as they leave me. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
