Description

I’ve been downsizing my surplus gadgetry etc., brought on following a massive stroke and forcedin to early retirement.

I havenow reached the most treasured part of my man cave – TheRecord Collection. I started collecting records over 45 years ago, mainly from the late 60’s to early 80’s. My first job from leaving school was working in a record shop. This gave me access to back catalogue and imports. Whilst my main interest was (and still is) Classic Prog, Dutch and German prog rock(the more obscure the better!) that job did allow me to explore other genres,so my collection is quite varied. Plus, there are now more modern ways to collectmusic but I’m really going to miss those sleeves!

Title

Black Sabbath IV

Label

Vertigo

Catalogue No.

6360 009, on record label and spine

WWA009, only on small label stuck to back of cover.

Matrix Side A

6360009 stamped faintly, but See Picture

Matrix Side B

 As above

Year

1972

Outer Sleeve

Ex-

Matt finish, slight texture. What I think are excess ink drying marks on inside rear gatefold. See pic, left of Tony's head. Insert still firmly glued in place. No creases. Very slight shelf wear for 2.5cm on bottom of front gatefold. Spine intact and still readable. Supplied in PVC outer sleeve.

Picture of spine shows "VERTI" in orange and at the bottom of the spine the number 6 in the catalogue number is the same. I've never noticed this before and don't know if it indicates a different version.

Inner Sleeve

& Inserts

Vertigo Swirl label, and swirl inner sleeve, polythene lining slightly yellowed at very top

Vinyl

Ex. No scratches or scuffs. This has not been played in decades and the poly sleeve lining had to be peeled from one of the vinyl sides. This has left some markings that a deep clean and polish might remove. It does not affect play in any way.

Playing Notes

Side A: A couple of slight pops during lead-in and intro to Track 1

Side B: A slight pop during intro Track 1

Some low-level hiss noticed between some tracks.

A deep clean might help remove the hiss for perfectionists

Notes

May be a second run, indicated by “Made in England” text below  date and above 33 1/3 rpm. See pics

IMPORTANT. BEFORE BIDDING, PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BELOW AS IT FORMS MY TERMS & CONDITIONS OF SALE.

Regarding carriage costs, the cheaper service has compensation up to £50.00 and the Other Courier (normally Royal Mail Special Delivery has compensation up to £500.00. The choice and risk is up to you!

I have recorded all MatrixNumbers exactly as they appear. You should check these against Discogs etc. and make your own judgement regarding ACTUAL VERSION and VALUE. My items will be priced to sell, and I hope the buyer gets good value. Remember I am a private collectorand not a record dealer, and don’t have their overheads, but I am aware of whata fair market value might be. Pay mewhat you think this album is worth to you.

I will be using custom packaging which I’ve had to buy in.Currently I’m using an Amazon style B2 rigid CLP 12” cruciform vinyl mailer with additional stiffeners. I want albums to arrive in the condition they left me. As some vinyl will beconsidered valuable, I will only post by using a “signed for” service.

It will take me some time to list my collection and I will beselective. There are almost 400 albums and 1000 singles. A modest collection butre-listening, research and photography all takes time. Please follow me or keepchecking back to see what’s new. As my collection is personal there may even bea story to tell with some items. Whilst my albums are catalogued in aspreadsheet, I’ve only done about quarter of the singles. Some items I mightlist later in small collections by artist, others as single items.

Albums will be cleaned as required and played one last time in fullbefore listing. This is to ensure there are no skips or excessive noise and I can give an accurate description.

A digital copy of this play will be kept so I can prove thecondition when it left me and will be deleted when I receive positive feedback. I will do my best to describe any flaws such as wear to sleeves, scuffs, marks or scratches to vinyl and describe them honestly. Inspection will be carriedout under artificial light using a magnifier.

You are bidding for an item that will be 25 – 50-years-old, which isantique by some standards so DON’T expect perfection. Remember VINYL is an inherently FRAGILE product and there will always be the odd pop, hiss and background noise. A lot of this is subjective and will be entirely dependent onyour equipment and your hearing. Part of the attraction of vinyl is that itisn’t perfect. If you do place a bid, it is on the strict understanding thatyou are purchasing the record on its visual description and not how it mightplay.

Brand new vinyl can have clicks and pops, and worse. I recall when workingin the record shop having to open several shrink-wrapped copies of RodStewart’s Greatest Hit Album (Whisky tumbler shape) to find a fussy customer a“flat” one. You should have seen his face when one turned out to have a perfect bootprint on it!

I’ll be fair when grading records, erring on the side of caution as I have no wish to overstate the condition of sleeves or vinyl and therefore inflate the value. I will try to photograph any significant wear or damage. If you needmore information, please contact me via eBay.

Mostof my albums have been kept in PVC wallets since purchase and will be sold in them. Our home has always been smoke and pet free and all records have been kept vertical and in dry inside storage.

I’ll use the UK Record Collector Grading Systemto describe my items. There are some instances where items will fall in betweenthese grades and I may use + or – to give a more accurate description.

Important: I got the catalogue and matrix numbers wrong! It should read 6360 071 on the disk, spine and part of the matrix number. I've uploaded another photo showing cat no on the spine. Thanks to adamsbears04 for pointing this out.
