AMAZING HEAVY BEAST of an album by the Blackbirds from 1971 on the German Opp label, "A Touch of Music". Hard to believe this was the same band who released the good but underwhelming limp beat pop album "No Destination", but after a few years and a total rethinking of their sound, they came back in 1971 and dropped this MONSTER of an album on the world. Six killer tracks, half of 'em pushing well past the 7 minute mark, great organ-led prog-psych with wild playing and creative directions. Standouts for me include the 7-minute "Return from the War", with its ominous heavy church organ and cool grungy acid guitar chords rising up from the depths and charging full steam ahead on an insistent galloping war steed of a rhythm section. "Give Me Freedom" is another winner, a slow gothic organ/piano led burner with earnest Teutonic uberdramtik vocals. The album closes with the MASSIVE 11-minute "Come Back". A RARE and wondrous delight that will please both psych and prog music fans. Original pressing on the German Opp label, from 1971, beautiful cover artwork too. Cover grades EXCELLENT with nearly no wear, vinyl has some light scuffs and prints, nothing bad at all and plays through a real nice EXCELLENT.
