Although Blancmange are usually associated to the synth pop sounds of 1980's Britain, they've undergone something of a revival in recent years. A string of gigs, new music and also a development in their sound has opened them to a new audience, something which has resulted in their latest album Semi Detached. Electronica, hints of post-punk and a dash of house make for an extremely pleasant listening experience. Tracks like "I Want More" or "Paddington" (a kind of ode to Ian Curtis) are both effective as club stormers as they are pop crossover hits. In brief, it's an LP which can be appreciated by music aficionados and electronic nerds alike. Terrific.
