Description

BLIND FAITH 1969 U.K. original Polydor gatefold LP of supergroup's sole release. Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker & Rick Grech. Stereo 583059. M-/M

The sole album from this supergroup formed with members from Cream, Traffic & Family. Guitarist extrordinaire Eric Clapton & keyboard wunderkind Steve Winwood had previously worked together on Elektra's "What's Shakin'" album while Eric was with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers & Steve was with the Spencer Davis Group & had formed a friendship. So when Cream began to sour, it was only natural that they would form a more permanent group. Somewhat surprisingly Cream drummer Ginger Baker also joined up & later Rick Grech the bassist & violinist for Family came on board. Blind Faith became the name of what was billed as a "supergroup" despite the protestations of Clapton & Winwood. But soon the "supergroup" moniker was just too much to bear since they had only been together for a few months & not had proper time to gel as a cohesive unit. After a tepid free show at Hyde Park & a U.S. tour where they eventually added Cream & Traffic favorites to the set list to fill out their slim repertoire, the group decided to call it a day. They did manage to deliver a classic album produced by Jimmy Miller consisting of 6 long tracks tunes though. There is not a bad track on the record- standouts are Winwood's "Can't Find My Way Home", "Had To Cry Today" & "Sea Of Joy" as well as Clapton's "Presence Of The Lord". This is the original 1969 U.K. pressing with the controversial cover by Bob Seideman. It is a gatefold with credits, lyrics & two b&w group photos on the inside (from the same session as the one used for the cover of the "cleaned-up" G-rated version released after many stores refused to stock the original). The back cover is a color landscape shot similar to the cover but without the girl or airplane.

6 tracks- Had To Cry Today, Can't Find My Way Home, Well All Right, Presence Of The Lord, Sea Of Joy & Do What You Like.

Gatefold cover looks nearly new except for slight shelf wear on the front & inside. No writing, tears or split seams. Overall the cover rates a near MINT rating. Record sounds great with no scratches or scuffs. Very few spins on this disc- rated MINT. The red background with white & black lettering Polydor labels look brand new.
