My Dad, J. Loyd Davis, began collecting phonographs in the 1960's up until his passing in 2011. For the first time since his passing, I'm listing records he acquired during his 45+ years of collecting. The last 2 photos are of my Dad "on the hunt" at a flea market, and of him with a few of his phonographs in the 1970's.
I am planning on listing 5-10 records every Tuesday in 5-day auctions that close every Sunday beginning at 3pm CST until they are gone. Be sure to save me on your eBay seller's list if you want to keep informed of my latest offerings!!
I am a longtime seller on eBay with excellent feedback. Please read all of my feedback from record sales over the past month +. Thank You.
YOU ARE BIDDING on a 10 inch antique ORIGINAL Okeh 78 phonograph record titled "BLACK SNAKE MOAN" by Blind Lemon Jefferson. #8455.  Reverse side is "MATCH BOX BLUES". "Match Box Blues" has some additional historical significance in the fact that it was recorded more than 30 years later by THE BEATLES in a Rockabilly version credited to Carl Perkins, who did NOT credit Jefferson on his 1955 recording. The "A" side has a "line" in the 2 o'clock position which goes across approximately 70% of the grooves. This does NOT appear on the Reverse side of the record. It is smooth to the touch in that area, and doesn't begin or end in either of the non-grooved inner or outer areas of the record. I was perplexed by this "line" so I asked some record guys. Their general consensus was that this "line" which appears on the "A" side only, is an Internal 1-Sided Hairline Lamination Crack. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS FOR SURE, YOU BE THE JUDGE. The "B" side has a very small tight hairline crack in the 9 o'clock position that starts on the outer edge, and goes approximately 1/4 inch into the grooves. This does NOT appear on the Reverse side of the record. Low Starting Price with NO RESERVE! See Photos.
I am NOT a record expert! I don't have anything to play records on, nor do I grade records. Please use the Zoom option to examine the photos and make your own determination about condition.  Thank You.
Each record will be carefully packed in a brick of cardboard and Completely Surrounded with packing inside a 12X12X6 box for safe delivery. PLEASE NOTE: There will NOT be any combined shipping, so please bid accordingly. I charge Exactly what the USPS charges me($5.22) to ship each record, and am Not making any money on the shipping. I am actually Losing money on each transaction because of the cost of the boxes, packing materials, and tape, etc. Each record will be shipped in an Individual Box. I have pre-purchased a large quantity of specific boxes for the sole purpose of shipping records. They are the exact size needed to Safely ship 1 record. I will Not try to cram multiple records into 1 of these boxes and have the records arrive in pieces! Thank You for your understanding!!!
