BLONDE ON BLONDE, ‘CONTRASTS’ ORIGINAL 1st 1969 UK PYE RECORD LABEL STEREO VINYL LP –Cat No, NSPL 18288.
Blonde on Blonde was a guitar-led psychedelic rock group from South Wales. The band was formed in Newport in 1967 by vocalist/guitarist Ralph Denyer, drummer Les Hicks, bassist/organist Richard Hopkins and guitarist/sitar player Gareth Johnson. The band was named after Bob Dylan's 1966 album of the same name. In 1968 the quartet left Wales for London, playing clubs such as Middle Earth and appearing on the BBC TV series How Late It Is. Signing to Pye Records, they released their first album, Contrasts, produced by Barry Murray, in 1969. The album included the Robin Williamson covers "No Sleep Blues" and "I Need My Friend", and a cover of The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby". That summer they appeared at the Isle of Wight Festival.
The LP is on the Pye Record Labels, with 'Made in England' printed on both record labels.
Both record labels are in superb Excellent Plus condition, undamaged labels with just a couple of light signs of play around the centre spindle holes.
The matrix’s on Side 1, NSPL 18288 A 1-H STEREO, and Side 2, NSPL 18288 B 1 –H STEREO.
The stampers side 1, KT 1 A and, side 2, KT 1 B.
Both sides of the substantial vinyl LP are in superb Excellent Plus condition – both sides are free from scratches, with just a couple of insignificant light hairlines.
Both sides of the LP play with a great sound quality, and featuring a very different version of The Beatles Song Eleanor Rigby.
The Garrod & Lofthouse gate-fold sleeve laminated to the front and back and with two internal flip-backs is in Very Good Plus condition, the sleeve has no major damage and shows a laminate pinch line across the front panel and a couple of small splits to the top and bottom of the spine edge.
