Description

This is not a MFSL recording. This is a very hard to find Columbia HALF SPEED MASTERED release of Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks recording. It was released in 1981. This copy is FACTORY SEALED and is in absolutely mint condition. The outer plastic sleeve is very soft and pliable with no tears or separations whatsoever, and the cardboard sleeve is perfect with no bent corners or other damage.

Most of what I know about this record comes from the included article from "SEARCHING FOR A GEM" You will find this by googling "searching for a gem bob Dylan blood on the tracks" Scroll down about a quarter of the way and you will find the included information.

My copy is not a promotional one. Perhaps the most unique thing about this record is the note that this recording is 2% slower than all other releases of this LP, resulting in longer track times. Apparently Dylan thought the original dragged too much and sped it up. This recording uses the pre "sped up" tape. I am not sure just how many of these are around, but again, I am not seeing any to help determine value. I am sure there are buyers out there who know better than I do just what the value of this item is.

I pack extremely well, so this LP should arrive to you in this same pristine condition.

Before the hybrid SA-CD release came out, this was reportedly the best version to buy! This album has special "Half Speed Mastered" sleeves and labels and the record has stamped matrix numbers such as: Side 1 - HAL 43235-2A, Side 2- HBL 43235-2B (Gerd Rundel's copy), Side 1 - HAL 43235-2F, Side 2- HBL 43235-2J (Hans Seegers' copy).

The back sleeve is the third US design with white text and an added bar code. The copy shown is a promo with a gold rectangular promotional stamp at the top left of the rear sleeve. This release has a laminated sleeve and a gate-folded insert. Renaud Depierreux has a commercial copy without the promo stamp.

Thanks to Ben Clayton for the information this recording runs approximately 2% more slowly than other pressings of the album, resulting in slightly longer track times. Ben finds this is explained in Clinton Heylin's book "Dylan: Behind Closed Doors, The Recording Sessions 1960-1994" (page 107): "As a further sleight of hand, Dylan seems to have actually sped up the resultant album., both Minneapolis and New York cuts, by two percent, in the mastering - presumably because he found the material dragged a little. The vinyl "half-speed master" evidently used the pre-sped up tape, making for quite a different listening experience."
