This is an original pressing of Funky Records FR-2002. I've never seen an FR-2001, don't know what it is, but I sure would like to! Rare private pressing from Upstate NY/ Western New York.

Boyd is a wildman! Imagine if Sky Saxon was a lounge soul singer but with a ripping hardrock guitarist who felt the need to wail distorted leads all over the place. Boyd lets loose regularly with James Brown-by-way-of-David Lee Roth strangulated shrieks and gruff growls. Also in the mix are Hammond organ and occasional funky rhythms but guitar is the predominant instrument here, double-tracked on a proto-metal cover of ''You Really Got Me'' (6 years before Van Halen!).

Back cover states: ''Boyd McCoy Is Funky Music He's A Powerhouse''. And I guess he intended this stuff to be funky, which it is- to a degree- but in retrospect, it's pure early 1970s hard rock with a Real People twist. Some songs seem to be originals, many are covers, but it's hard to tell with some ... the credits are totally screwy, the most well-known songs are credited to totally unknown entities. Boyd takes ''Smoke On The Water'' to such an out-there zone, with hilariously botched lyrics, that maybe he SHOULD take credit for it.

Okay, here's more info from a recent eBay sale- check out item 4723100629 for a cover shot and description. My picture here is of the back cover. I agree with most everything this seller said, except I found no ballads on here! The only variety from uptempo hardrock is a couple of midtempo funky rock workouts. I wasn't planning on selling this LP, it was comfortably in the local section of my collection, but if that's what it's worth I will let it go to a hardrock/private press freak to make room for more of the 1966-69 PSYCH Lps I gotta have. Otherwise, it goes back into the dungeon...

CONDITION: Cover is NM (actually it's Like New and perfect, in completely intact shrinkwrap). Vinyl is visually NM with no scuffs or wear but there's vinyl bubbles in the press that make a few pops so visual grading is subjective. Only played a couple of times, I'm sure.

There's no writing, stamps, labels, stickers, tears, gouges, cutouts, drillholes, moisture damage ... anywhere on this record. please check our feedback before bidding!
