Grammy-Award winning rock legend Boz Scaggs showcases both original songs and choice covers on the album Memphis. The album was produced by Steve Jordan (John Mayer) and was recorded at Willie Mitchell's legendary Royal Studio in Memphis, where the late Mitchell recorded Al Green and other Hi Records artists. Joining Scaggs on Memphis are Willie Weeks (bass), Ray Parker Jr. (guitars), Spooner Oldham (keyboards), the Memphis Horns, Lester Snell (string arrangements) and Steve Jordan (drums).

William Royce Boz Scaggs began a long and storied career in 1965 with the release of his first solo recording Boz. Scaggs quickly developed into an iconic singer songwriter cutting his teeth playing with Steve Miller on several highly successful projects and honing his rock and R&B chops working with the likes of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and Duane Allman. Scaggs hit it big in 1976 achieving multi-platinum success with Silk Degrees and its follow-ups. Scaggs continued on a lauded and multi-genre musical journey with successes in film soundtracks.

Out of The Blues completes a trilogy of albums that began in 2013 with Memphis followed by 2015's A Fool To Care.

The self-produced Out Of The Blues finds national treasure Boz Scaggs applying his iconic voice and gritty guitar skills to a set of vintage classics as well as four originals. For the occasion, the legendary singer/songwriter/guitarist assembled a star-studded studio band including such prestigious players as guitarists Doyle Bramhall II, Ray Parker Jr. and Charlie Sexton, bassist Willie Weeks, drummer Jim Keltner and keyboardist Jim Cox, as well as longtime friend Jack Walroth on guitar, harmonica and percussion.

Out of the Blues continues Scaggs' collaboration with Steve Jordan in exploring music they have in common. The exploration resulted in a bluesy overcast to originals and covers of songs by artists such as Jimmy Reed, Bobby 'Blue' Bland, and a take on "On the Beach" by Neil Young. "Rock and Stick" was written by Boz Scaggs' friend Jack Walroth.

SILK DEGREES 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE PURE PLEASURE PRESSING - Boz Scaggs, the lanky Texan neo-soul crooner and under-rated guitar warrior, was a Steve Miller Band alumnus who jumped ship to probe silky R & B instead of gritty blues, the Miller Band’s menu, and each of his early seventies solo albums polished with a mix towards this triumphant genius. SILK DEGREES, the mid-seventies release, particularly best known track LOW DOWN which can’t help but risk museum piece status if only for its ubiquity on the radio. Yet, Scaggs lyric intelligence and skin tight playing of a studio band built around what would soon become TOTO makes this a modern classic, as note worthy for its ballads WE’RE ALL ALONE, HARBOR LIGHTS, as for its workouts GEORGIA, LIDO SHUFFLE, and a typical smart cover choice in a great version of Allen Toussaint’s WHAT DO YOU WANT THE GIRL TO DO?

Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs was not only one of the finest examples of crossover soul, pop and rock ever recorded, but it was also one of the biggest albums of the seventies and included some of the finest grooves ever played by Boz Scaggs, which netted him a Grammy for his mega number one hit Lowdown.

Other major hit singles included Lido Shuffle, Georgia, What Can I Say and It’s Over. Other artists like Rita Coolidge and Frankie Valli covered songs from this watershed album and had major hits themselves, which further illustrates the importance and influence of this highly loved and regarded masterwork.

Featuring his friends like Fred Tackett (Little Feat), Les Dudek, and of course the future hit makers Toto as his backing band for most of this fine album, Boz Scaggs’ Silk Degrees still rocks with all of us and is a crowd pleaser to this day!

- This baby is a sleeper gem. I didn't know it existed until I was scrolling through the Boz Scaggs vinyls and came across it. I heard Boz in concert in Mpls and he was wonderful. Never knew he was a blues guitarist. Just thought of him as the hit-maker who made Lowdown. The price of the album would be worth it if the only song on the album was Spare Me a Dime. Other than the concert I saw him play in, I'd never heard this song before and it is sooo good. His guitar playing is amazing. The rest of the album is wonderful as well. Boz is one of those few artists who sounds better live than in the studio--which is an enormous complement since everything is stacked against the live musician getting it totally right--from the recording, mixing, and equipment to the band and backup singers getting it just right. Well, everyone got it right on this album--it is great!
