The greatest cellist of our time Yo-Yo Ma has recorded Bach's solo piece which is said to be the Old Testament for cellists three times. This is the first recording Yo-Yo Ma made in his mid-20s and is an anniversary project commemorating the 40th anniversary of the first release in 1983. It also includes new liner notes by producer Richard Einhorn who also worked on Gould's Goldberg Variations 1981. Yo-Yo practiced two bars of the piece every day from the age of four under the tutelage of his musician father and once said in an interview that it is such an important piece that he still plays it every morning. And this first recording brought Yo-Yo his first Grammy Award. The analog surface of this 3-LP set is a picture disc format with parts of the handwritten scores of all six pieces printed on both sides. This overseas-produced product (both the disc and jacket are manufactured in the EU) will be imported as is and released as a Japanese version with Japanese commentary and obi. The cutting has not been remastered using the hybrid disc that will be released at the same time.
