Description

BREGENT 1st LP 1973 *TOP* CANADIAN PSYCH FOLK PROG JAZZ

Record: Bregent “Poussieres des regrets” LP (Label : RCA Victor PCS-4021, 1973 – ORIGINAL COPIE). CONDITION : EX-/VERY STRONG VG++ (both side looks terrefic, Side 2 is definitly EX. Side 1 is STRONG VG++ with three marks: many would grade EX but I’ll be strict here).

This sought after record, I mean the whole album is filled with impressive compositions that sounded quite innovative for the times. Their sonic illustrations were fairly dramatic and dark, jazzy, gothic, sometimes psychedelic, fraying into free-jazz improvs, unique, inventive (at the time, but still sounds quite uncommon today) and  progressive.

All the words on this rare and top sought after Bregent act, come from poets (older classics like Baudelaire and Villon, or 20th Century poets like Ferre and Nazim Hikmet. Vocals are delivered in dramatic fashion, going from urgent whispering to screaming in the climax of the 12:14 minutes “Dieu est negre”.

They are also some breakdowns into abstract expressionism remeniscent of free jazz. Contrast is everything: a freaky saxophone burst dissolves recited verse backed by soft sound effects which then builds into ranting backed by cacophonous noise. It’s quite a creative and unique experience, a top one in SUPERB CONDITION.
