Following the success of their debut, American soul and funk girl band The Brides of Funkenstein returned in 1979 with a follow-up record that sharpened their P-Funk credentials. With Lynn Mabry departing, Dawn Silva was joined by Jeanette McGruder and Sheila Horne on Never Buy Texas From A Cowboy to form a formidable vocal front guided by George Clinton. Backed by heavyweights including Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell, the album stretches out with the sprawling title track, while 'Party Up In Here' and 'Didn't Mean To Fall In Love' show its range. This reissue will help make this cult classic hit a new generation, which is exactly what it deserves.
