Timing strip and promo sticker
1963
Here is a really nice copy of a very hard to find album. The album is of great historical import as it is among the body of work which led The Beach Boys to hire Johnston as the touring replacement for Brian Wilson when he decided his time was better spent in the studio than on the road.
I'd like to give the vinyl a NM grade. Many eBay sellers would. The labels are perfect with no writing or spindle marks at all. The vinyl has a high gloss with rainbow sheen. There are no scratches at all and only the faintest bit of scuffing. The reason I gave it a VG++ is because of some small patches which I can't quite identify but which can be seen when the record is held at a certain angle. The good news is that they don't seem to affect play. I listened to the entire album and it sounded very clean. Perhaps if you have an RCM or some other advanced cleaning method, you can bring this one up to NM.
The jacket is VG+ with no seam splits or writing. There are some corner bumps, most significantly at the top left (see photo). The front shows age appropriate discoloration and faint ringwear. The front also shows a reasonably clean white timing strip with some yellowing at the bottom edge. Lastly there is a Columbia "STAR" promo sticker which retains about 80% of it's shiny surface. The back is complete with no tears or lifting, but does reveal moderate discoloration, especially at the edges, and one significant liquid stain at the bottom left (again, see photo).
I grade hard, trying to put myself in the place of the buyer rather than the seller. See my feedback and bid with confidence!
The record will be shipped in an approved mailer, with the vinyl in a new white sleeve and kept outside of the jacket. The inner sleeve and jacket will be in a clear poly sleeve for protection. I want to be sure that you don't get any split seams and that this arrives in perfect condition. Insurance and tracking will be included with shipping. Contact me to discuss international shipping.
Please see my other auctions. I happily combine shipping (listed rate for first record, $1 additional for every other). Good luck and happy bidding!
