Bruce Palmer, probably the most invisible member of the 60s supergroup Buffalo Springfield, only put out one single solo album: 1971's The Cycle is Complete. Long out of print in its original iteration, The Cycle is Complete stands apart from other albums generated by artists associated with the "California Sound" by being not too dissimilar from the rock, jazz, and experimental records coming out of Germany at the time it was released. Whether this was intentional or merely accidental is hard to say. Regardless, The Cycle is Complete is a jam-based album featuring subtle synths, vocal manipulation (especially on "Calm Before the Storm"), and a minimal, drum-kit-free rhythm section. These touches complement the steady pulse of Palmer's bass and unobtrusive acoustic guitar playing. This ends up being very ahead of its time music, though touches of flower power sneak through here and there. As a bonus, the musician who came to be known as Rick James contributes to this record! Highly recommended for adventurous listeners who want something that's not quite psychedelic, not quite folk, not quite Krautrock, but somehow a little of all these things at the same time.
