Largely overlooked when it was released originally back in 1973, before the pair became part of arguably the biggest band of the 70s, Fleetwood Mac, interest in it grew and those looking for more from Mac's members found this album has more merit than the underwhelming recognition it first received. Oddly, the album remained without a reissue for over 50 years while second hand copies soared in prices, but finally, the long-overdue official reissue restores its warmth and clarity, with the vinyl remastered from original analogue tapes by Chris Bellman. The album opens with Nicks's 'Crying in the Night', a sultry yet volatile portrait of a femme fatale, steeped in emotional urgency. Buckingham's tender instrumental 'Stephanie' follows. Tracks like 'Without a Leg to Stand On' and the early version of 'Crystal' reveal their raw songwriting chemistry. Nicks shows her strength and early ability to successfully lead a song with 'Long Distance Winner' and 'Races Are Run'. Buckingham injects a more rock sound into 'Don't Let Me Down Again'. The interplay between their voices and guitars is consistently magnetic. The closer, 'Frozen Love', is a sweeping, co-led epic whose power famously caught Mick Fleetwood's ear and then altering rock history. Both time capsule and prophecy, as it foreshadowed the emotional intensity, melodic sophistication and dramatic tension that would later define Fleetwood Mac's golden era. this might just be the pop reissue of the year.
