If you are a completist U.S. Buddy Holly collector this may be your only chance to obtain this RARE COVER VARIATION that exists ONLY IN SOUTH AFRICA without having to pay expensive transatlantic shipping charges, if you can find this version of this LP at all!
This is an ORIGINAL 1959 CORAL RECORDS SOUTH AFRICA LP titled 'The Buddy Holly Story', with the front cover bearing an ALTERNATE PHOTO OF BUDDY HOLLY, different from the one used on the front cover of this LP in just about every other country in the world including that used in the United States.  it is Coral Records South Africa catalog number LVA 9105, flipback laminated cover.  Record comes packaged inside the cover in a plain white paper inner sleeve.
There are two main differences in the front cover photo used on this LP from the ones used elsewhere in the world - Buddy's pose in this picture is slightly different from that seen in other countries, and there is a difference seen in his hair in this picture, but the main difference is seen in the collar of his shirt and jacket near the lower right corner of the cover photo - Buddy is seen here wearing what appears to be a dark jacket over a white shirt with the collar of the shirt visible above the top of Buddy's jacket, where the photo used in the rest of the world shows a dark shadowy area around Buddy's neck above an indistinct white area farther down toward the lower right corner of that photo.  The differences can be clearly compared in a survey of the front cover photos used by South Africa and in the rest of the world as shown in the images of this LP on the Discogs site.

The main reason for having this LP lies in the alternate cover photo - The condition of this album is about an overall VG/VG- - Record has a slow warp which does not affect play and a moderate amount of surface marks and scratches, some of which affect play with pops and ticks.  Cover has a number of flaws due to age and use but none which detract from the viewing of the alternate cover photo - Lamination over the front cover is wrinkled and raised over its right hand area, and cover has some general wear and wear along the edges and on the corners.
I have priced this LP according to rarity as well as condition - This RARE ORIGINAL 1959 SOUTH AFRICA ISSUE 45 WITH ALTERNATE COVER PHOTO is a great conversation piece and would make a choice addition to any completist Buddy Holly or late 1950s rock-n-roll record collection!
