BUDDY HOLLY &
THE CHIRPING CRICKETS

Some people don't realize it, but this was the FIRST BUDDY HOLLY album that was released. It hit the streets in November of 1957, four months before the 'Buddy Holly' album on Coral (the one where he's sans glasses), and five months before that Decca Lp.

At the time of the release, Buddy had three hit singles, "That'll Be The Day," "Peggy Sue" and "Oh Boy!" As you might know, anything with a vocal group backing him was called a 'Crickets' record, and anything without was a Buddy Holly release. Same basic group, two different names and two different (though related) labels.

The photo is said to have been taken on the roof of the Paramount Theatre in Brooklyn and the group still included Niki Sullivan. Buddy's also still in his half-wire glasses. How things would change in the next few months.

Name is written right under 'the chirping' faintly in pen on front. This is from WDXI in Jackson, Tennessee. Actual postage on this item is 5.00 PRIORITY (1 lb. 6 oz) within the US.
