Description
BUDDY HOLLY & THE CRICKETS - 'THE CHIRPING CRICKETS'. UK 1st Pressing (VOGUE/CORAL) LVA 9081 (1958).
Buddy's Holly (& The Crickets) debut album. Rare in any condition... but this is a true Unicorn.
Fully laminated sleeve (front and back) with large 'crescent' flip-backs grades NEAR MINT! Vinyl & labels grade NEAR MINT!
This is something incredibly special. Never seen another quite like this. A museum piece. Probably the finest in existence. Check out all the pictures. Owning this one has been a complete trip. This one is a piece of treasure. As such, I have not even played it. I bought it in the same condition you see here.
Certainly, this is ALL the money. But... it is an investment grade example. It is exceptional. Listed for not a lot more than I paid for it about 15 years ago. You can routinely spend £200-ish on a VG+/EX example, most weeks of the year, but you will always feel a need to upgrade – to this unrivalled standalone example.
1950s sleeves are just beautiful artworks when they are as fantastic as this, but when they get damaged, bent or ripped - often with missing sections, they completely lose all their magic and charm.
No splits, no loss of lamination. No creases. Only very slight flaws with the sleeve. I have detailed photos showing the slightly flawed areas. It's a shade or two short of being absolutely dead MINT!
Alongside some others I am selling, this is top of the heap. A pinnacle collector's piece.
One of the most emulated sources of modern rock and pop music. Nobody can deny how influential Buddy Holly was. In 1958, this album (and sleeve) launched a thousand bands and wannabe guitar players... "What the hell is that guitar on the cover." Not many had yet seen – let alone heard a Fender Stratocaster. The rest is history.
