and introducing THE BEE-JAYS on "Oh, Baby Don't You Know"

NOTES: This is a great early Rock'n'Roll/Jive Blues album, which features 6 instrumental tracks and 6 vocal tracks. The Buddy Johnson band features the same men on rhythm--and most of the saxes--throughout, but there is some change in the trumpet & trombone chairs; one of whom is a young Slide Hampton. Buddy's sister, Ella Johnson, has the lion's share of the vocals (4 songs), but Nolan Lewis has the lead on 1 track and the one-hit-wonders vocal group The Bee-Jays--famous for their Northern Soul classic "I'll Find You"--made their national recording debut on "Oh, Baby Don't You Know".

Collective Personnel: Buddy Johnson piano, leader Harold Minerve, Teddy Smalls alto saxes Johnny Burdine, Purvis Henson, Dave van Dyke tenor saxes Maxwell Lucas, Teddy Conyers baritone sax Ricky Harper, Willis Nelson, Frank Royal, Andrew Wood, Gil Askey, Courtney Williams, Wallace Wilson trumpets Slide Hampton, Ed Burke, Haleen Rasheed, Steve Pulliam, Julius Watson trombones Chauncey "Lord" Westbrook electric guitar Leon Spann acoustic bass Emmanuel Simms drums Ella Johnson, Nolan Lewis, The Bee-Jays lead vocals
