Budgie 'Budgie' : 1st Stereo Press 1L / 1L
This highly collectable first pressing plays with stunning audio apart from four clicks on the final track and S1 is practically 'as new'! The cover is in superb condition and it also includes a 25 x 20cms press poster from '71.

Visual grading
For such a rare and collectable album this is in excellent condition. There are some fine hairlines and also a couple of mega tiny 2mm scratches on S2 but it still retains a lovely sheen. A very impressive looking vinyl overall with super clean labels and run out grooves also.
Play grading
Firstly I will say S1 plays with audio of the highest quality, it is stunning and I have never heard better! 'Guts' plays with stunning power and depth from beginning to end. The intro has a couple of static clicks and a minor amount of barely audible static and from then on it plays with breathtaking quality and is obvious this vinyl has only been lightly played. The bass is so strong in the mix and the clarity is stunning. It may only have been their debut but it was recorded at the famous 'Rockfield Studio' in Monmouth where Queen and Led Zeppelin also worked and is very close to Cardiff from where 'Budgie' originated. Anyway, back to the music! This opening track easily grades as Ex on the intro but the remainder easily grades as Mint- it is that good. The super quiet 'Everything In My Heart' is stunning and the clarity is 'as new'. An incredible version of this short track. The quiet intro on 'The Author' is immaculate style and has no 'background' and from then continues in the same way. I cannot stress enough just how superbly this plays! It is as good as when first released back in '71. There is no interference - the quiet opening section plays with perfect precision and once the volume increases the riffs also play to the same fantastic standard. This is audio of the highest calibre and is just an incredible listening experience! There is no distortion on the top end and the power and depth here is tangible. I should obviously grade as Mint- as the album isn't sealed but if this isn't Mint I don't know what is! Wow what a version! 'Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman' I am delighted to say is of the same immaculate standard from the quiet intro to the stunning guitar work and strong bass lines. There are no clicks or pops and no static or crackle either, just pure Mint- audio from start to finish and yes I listened to every second. It's worth pointing out Philip's drum work here. It is so powerful and rivals Bonham in my opinion!
'Rape Of The Locks' has only light static on the intro and then as the vocal begins the dynamic audio once again becomes apparent. The sound quality is superb and there is no interference at all to the very end. 'All Night Petrol' also plays faultlessly with 'high end' audio and there are no clicks, pops etc. There is no distortion and again it plays with remarkable depth and clarity. The super quiet and melodic 'You And I' is Mint- from start to finish and for an acoustic track to play as clearly as this on a very first pressing is indeed a rarity and I have never heard a more impressive version. 'Homicidal Suicidal' plays with stunning power from the very first groove. Sadly there are two loud clicks halfway through and two more later on but that is the only negative. The rest of the track plays incredibly well with barely any static and is 'loud and funky' as stated on the back cover. This must be the most bass heavy rock track I have ever heard and whilst it isn't up to the standard of the other tracks it remains a superb listen. The crescendo ending is stunning and is 'as new' with no interference.
In summary this rare and highly collectable first pressing plays with exceptional quality and if not for the four clicks on the final track this would be a final upgrade copy. Budgie I think are underrated and one listen of the classic riffs on this debut album cannot fail but impress and they have been cited by a number of bands as a major influence.
The Cover
The laminated cover is very impressive with only very minor shelf wear. The edges have no rubbing/wear at all and the spine is near perfect apart from a couple of tiny crease marks. The corners are in superb shape with hardly any wear and the opening edge has no obvious handling wear also. The front cover has no marking and only a small number of laminate creases and a few faint creases around the edges. The non-laminated back cover is visually stunning with no wear at all. Overall this is superb example of a 'first press' cover.
Inner sleeve & Poster
The original poly-lined inner is in great condition with no splits or tears, just some light creasing and minor age related fading around the edges.

The labels
The red dog bone labels have lost none of their original colour and have no writing or marking on. They are exceptionally clean with only a small amount of spindle wear.
