TRIUMPHANT WELSH hard rock band hugely popular on the club, pub, university and college circuit during the 70's and a band that I saw many, many times. They always delivered in a big way with huge crushing riffs and incredible long songs. Bassist Burke Shelley wrestled his bass to the floor, often collapsing on his knees as the mighty sucked every last ounze of energy from his tiny frame. In my opinion guitarist Tony Bourge is second only to Tony Iommi as the riff meister supreme - his playing is simply beyond imagination and he played a Gibson SG - same guitar as Iommi!
The deliciously titled 'Impeckable' was their second album to be released under a new record deal with A&M after years spent on the ailing MCA label. Bravely they modified their sound slightly, not in a commercial sense but in a slightly refined direction with songs that combined light and shade. Having said that, their are tracks here that have gone on to be become legend in the Budgie cannon including the riff hungry 'Melt The Ice Away' and 'Smile Boy Smile'. In fact, I would go so far as to say that this is the great 'lost' Budgie album, recorded and released at a time when punk rock was all the rave with barely a handful of discerning punters still clinging onto the hard rock reigns. Sure, the riffs may be slightly funky but that was the beauty of this album - the fact that the band had decided to continue on a slightly experimental path showed that they weren't afraid of losing their fan base or indeed their cool.
This album alongside the previous years 'Britannia...' rates as one of the great lost Budgie albums - truly a wonderful work and supremely executed.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Vinyl: Nice clean and shiny condition. No spindle marks on labels and no other signs of any use. Grades as a very strong shop fresh MINT!
Cover: Again, virtually no signs of any use. Issued in a beautifully designed cover. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is stiff, square and totally uncrushed. Impossible to find like this after 39 years. Grades as top MINT-!
