Budgie's music is often described as a cross between the progressive textures of Rush and the heaviness of Black Sabbath.[1] Burke Shelley's vocals have been compared to Geddy Lee due to his similar approach of high-pitched banshee wails (coincidentally, Shelley and Lee are also the bass players in their respective power-trio bands). Although Budgie remained quite obscure during their early career, many future stars of hard rock/metal have cited them as an important influence and covered their songs, including Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Van Halen, Melvins, Queens of the Stone Age, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden.

Metallica released a cover of "Breadfan" in September 1988 as a B-side to their "Harvester of Sorrow" single. It was later included on their 1998 album Garage Inc., and was also used as an encore during their 1988–1989 tour supporting their ...And Justice for All album. A live video version is present on the Live Shit: Binge & Purge boxed set, taken from their Seattle concerts on 29 and 30 August 1989 where it was performed in the second encore. It was also played with frequency during the Madly in Anger with the World Tourand World Magnetic Tour. A short clip of "Breadfan" is played at the beginning of the "Whiskey in the Jar" music video. Splendid prog metal/experimental album in great EX condition for its vinyl!! 

THE IMMACULATE VINYL PLAYS GREAT ALL THE WAY THROUGH BOTH SIDES. 

THE STEREO REPRODUCTION IS SUPERB AND EVERY NOTE IS HEARD CLEARLY AND CRISPLY WITHOUT DISTORTION.  NEEDLESS TO SAY, NO STICKS OR JUMPS!

Budgie went on tour after the release of their groundbreaking third studio album “Never Turn Back on a Friend”. The tour was very intense for the Welsh trio and drummer Ray Philips had to leave the band eventually after a dispute with bassist Shelley and guitarist Bourge. Pete Boot replaced him. Their fourth studio album “In for the Kill” was quickly put together between two tours in a short amount of time. Even tough the band hadn’t have lot of time to work on the songs, the album was once again a bull’s eye. 

“In for the Kill” is a little bit heavier than the previous “Never Turn Back on a Friend” and the mixture of progressive rock, blues and heavy metal work very good on this release. The album features many classic Budgie tracks like the progressive title track “In for the Kill”, the long jam “Zoom Club”, the heavy “Crash Course in Brain Surgery”, the catchy “Running from my Soul”, the heavy blues based “Hammer and Tongs” and the final “Living on Your Own”. The only song I really don’t like is the acoustic “Wondering What Everyone Knows”; I think Burke Shelley’s voice and acoustic tracks is not a good comnination. (rateyourmusic.com)

Vinyl: EX. This vinyl sounds out of this world, a majestic album like their first one that went unnoticed. Only very lightly played, this is a well preserved vinyl which will stand proud in a quality prog collection. The audio has beautiful separation and there is no background noise. I played this in full and thoroughly enjoyed it. Under a strong light just the obligatory paper retraction traces which nearly every vinyl has. One wispy hairline side 1 last track which has no audio impact at all. I was even tempted to keep this as it will be very hard to find this again in such fine fettle, it is indeed mega rare now, much like their first three albums. Needless to say NO jumps, clicks or ticks. This will be a fantastic upgrade for most long time collectors!!

Sleeve: EX.  A great example of this rarely seen album. The sleeve is fully laminated and in fine shape. The only flaw would be the top left corner with a small nick (see pic). NO writing. Please inform yourself from the pictures. An enormously rare album now and not too many come up for auction these days. The opening is still crisp. The edges are top notch and the spine and top edge are fully legible (pic). All pictures are part of the description.

This is a unique investment opportunity!!! The next psych album to go completely through the roof. Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible so late in the day. Get this while you still can. This value of the album is only going to go one way ... up and up ... until it will be totally unavailable at all for a reasonable price.
