Budgie : Never Turn Your Back On A Friend A1 / B1 1st Press
This first pressing plays to an exceptional standard with just a little interference on S1 which lasts for a few seconds only. Aside from that the clarity and definition of the audio is 'as new' and rarely have I heard better.
This is a genuine first press as denoted by the matrix info and the original silver/black labels. It also a very early edition as has only a single stamper on each side.
The cover has a little wear but certainly not an excessive amount and the original inner remains in excellent condition.

Visual grading
The vinyl is in lovely condition with no marks or scratches and still retains a very strong glossy sheen. I can only detect a small number of very faint hairlines and this is certainly a record that has been very well looked after down the years and not over-played. The run out grooves are also very clean with only minimal light hairline marking.
Play grading
The classic 'Breadfan' plays with stunning quality from the very first groove. Each riff is as good as the previous with no interference of any kind and as the vocal begins the clarity is still there. It progresses in the same precise way and even the quieter acoustic section plays beautifully with no intrusion. The final section is also 'as new' with no 'background' and overall this is deserving of a Mint grade as it could not play with any greater clarity or depth. A fantastic start!
I am pleased to say 'Baby Please Don't Go' is of the same 'high end' standard with not one iota of interference. I mean that - there is not even a single dust tick! A great foot-tapper this also qualifies as Mint
The acoustic intro on 'You Know I'll Always Love You' is nigh on perfect with only a couple of dust ticks and continues to play with great clarity and no underlying static. However, during the first chorus there are 4/5 light clicks and the same number of lighter ticks. The clicks are certainly not loud but obviously you can hear them. The remainder plays without fault and would be a perfect version but for that brief section. The majority is Mint but yes grades as VG for that 10 seconds.
The extended percussive intro on 'You're The Biggest Thing Since Powdered Milk' is so 'clean' without any 'background' and continues to play with supreme quality. Once again there is no underlying static and from start to finish the clarity and definition of the audio is so impressive. Bourge's long solo is as good as I have ever heard and once you get into the 'heavier' section towards the end the playback is stunning! The power and definition is so strong and there is no distortion at all. Just pure unadulterated Mint audio - it doesn't get any better than this! This is a sublime version and grades as Mint from start to finish. The long fade out has no 'background' which just exemplifies the level of clarity we have here.

'In The Grip Of A Tyrefitter's Hand' plays with stunning quality from the very first groove and thereafter does not disappoint. This is another indication of a rarely played vinyl and every note plays with sublime precision. With no clicks or pops, no static or crackle and no dust ticks (not even on the fade out!) this is Mint in every way.
The acoustic 'Riding My Nightmare' is of the same 'high end' standard which is impressive for this quiet track. There are only a small number of mega light dust ticks but that obviously does not classify as interference. Mint- is a fair appraisal of the audio.
The intro on the classic 'Parents' is immaculate and the same applies to the first three verses and 'chorus'. From then on there is nothing to fault. The long solo is stunning and every section plays with incredible power, depth and clarity and for a track coming in at over 10 minutes is a rarity indeed. The final vocal is flawless as is the end solo plus 'seagulls'! A stunning Mint track to end this superb album.
In summary this first pressing is nigh on perfect with only a few seconds of interference on S1. If not for that the entire album would grade as Mint the sonic quality is outstanding on both sides.ove upon the audio. The sonic quality is immaculate and any collector would be as impressed as I am by this stunning album.
The Gatefold
The Robert Stace cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear. The edges have only very minimal rubbing and the spine is also very clean with only a couple of small white 'marks' and minimal rubbing on the corners. The right hand corners are even better with very little wear and the opening edge has only a small amount of handling wear. The front cover is very clean except for one small sticker removal mark and the back cover is similar but does have a little ringwear rubbing/fading near the top and a rectangular type 'white' mark top right as if there may have been a sticker there at some point. The inside of the cover is in great shape with only a minimal touch of very light fading around the edges. The cover does have a slightly 'wavy' feel as if it may have been a bit damp at some point but still deserves an Ex- grade in my opinion.
The Inner Sleeve
The original blue stereo poly-lined inner is in great condition with no side splits and just one tiny tear on one top edge. There is only a little age related fading around the edges and some creasing.
The Labels
The black/silver labels MCA labels have no spindle wear and have no marking or writing. Stunning examples!
