BY THE time Budgie reached this their third album they were firing on all six cylinders. Their couple of albums were good but held back by p*ss poor production. 'Never Turn Your Back On A Friend' (self produced) raised the barrier considerably helping to signal Budgie's arrival at the gates of hard rock delerium. Guitarist Tony Bourge had really honed his riffing skills to perfection and Shelley's high pitched whine never sounded so wacky. 'Breadfan', 'In The Grip Of A Tyrefitters Hand' and 'You're The Biggest Thing Since Powdered Milk' are collosal slices of pure unadulturated riffing, heavier than lead weights and more crushing than Sabbaff at their peak. In fact I'd go so far to as to say that Bourge is, pound for pound, a better riffmeister than Iommi. I'll take a lot of flak for that but you know it's true. That's Budgie, the greatest power trio that ever stalked the face of the planet.
Best track? That accolade has to go to 'Parents' a brilliant confessional with its aching melody and spooky lyrics.
Pressing: MCA, UK, 1973 - Original black label
Vinyl: Clean and shiny condition. One or two spindle marks on labels but no other signs of use. Grades as a superb Nr Archive MINT!
Cover: Again, no signs of use. Housed in a single cover illustrated by Roger Dean. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends and no creases. Beautiful and so hard to find in this condition 50 years after release. Grades as top shop fresh MINT-!
