Eloise Greenfield was an author of children’s books in the late 70’s and 80’s. In 1978 she wrote “Honey, I Love,” a collection of poetry for children. In 1981, Byron Morris and Unity (known for Blow Thru Your Mind) recorded backing tracks for Greenfield and a group of children reading her poetry. The project was supported by the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities. The standout cuts here are the deep dancefloor jazz funk on “Moochie,” the funky conga / poetry workout on “Rope Rhyme,” and the spiritual sound of “Aunt Roberta and By Myself” which is backed by a rendition of Kenny Barron’s “Sunshower.” Extremely rare private press jazz for those in the know.
