Description
J.S. Bach - Sonatas & Partitas, played by Nathan Milstein - violin. Capitol PCR-8370, 3 LPs in box, 1st green/gold labels, mono, US pressing. Includes original booklet.
LP Condition: The vinyl looks clean and glossy without marks on all the discs. There are almost no spindle marks around the label center holes, suggesting little or no play. For this set, I have auditioned all the discs. With the exception noted for side 4 (below), all play without significant audible defects. The backgrounds are remarkably quiet for vinyl from the mono only era. As far as LP condition, this is probably the best example I've seen of this set. Please see specific grades & comments below for each side, and also note my grading explanation shown at the bottom of the page for reference.
Side 1: EX+/NM
Side 2: EX+/NM
Side 3: EX+/NM
Side 4: EX, there is a spot near the start of the last band with 5 soft ticks and near the end with 7-8 ticks. These are brief enough not to detract seriously from the experience.
Side 5: EX+, plays NM but a few more spindle trails on label than others
Side 6: EX+/NM
Box: VG. The front and back both look quite nice, with no wear or damage to the front picture. However, transparent tape has been applied to the upper and lower edges of box front cover and a short piece of tape to the back cover at the upper edge. Box hinge has separated.
Booklet: Has no marks or damage.

Record Grades
Ask me if you have any questions or need a fuller description for any item. I try my best to avoid causing you any unpleasant surprises when you get your record. Below are the guidelines I use.
Mint (M): Only sealed LPs and LPs opened by me to confirm stamper information receive this grade.
Near mint (NM): LP is almost perfectly preserved. There may be a spindle trail or two, or an occasional light hairline or mark which will not sound during play. If there are visible marks on the vinyl, I will mention them as well as any audition results. A NM record will not have significant audible defects, unless these are clearly factory defects. Any such defects will be described in the listing. Please remember, NM is not the same as mint and, for vintage LPs, even truly mint records will not sound flawless on good, modern equipment. This is even more true of early mono vinyl. Please be reasonable in your expectations.
Excellent+ (EX+): LP has a few more signs of play than NM, and may have a few spindle marks and some non-sounding hairlines or scuffs. It should not have significant audible defects.
Excellent (EX): LP may have a few slight surface marks and/or spindle trails. Although marks will mostly inaudible, some may cause light ticks for a brief time.
Very good (VG): There will be audible marks or scuffs but the record will be playable without skips or excessive wear.
Jackets and album boxes will be described and photos provided. Grading is approximately similar to those of LPs, telling how close the condition is to the originally issued item. Please ask if you need more information.
