Basie, Lester Young, Illinois Jacquet -
COUNT BASIE AT NEWPORT -
Verve UMV 2619 -
Japanese Pressing -
STUNNING!

Just one look at the personnel here tells you…it doesn't get much better than this.

Recorded during the final concert of the Newport Jazz Festival in 1957, Basie hosts the likes of Jimmy Rushing, Lester Young, Jo Jones, Illinois Jacquet, Roy Eldrige, as they rip, swing, and totally "destroy" POLKA DOTS AND MOONBEAMS, LESTER LEAPS IN, BOOGIE WOOGIE, SENT FOR YOU YESTERDAY AND HERE YOU COME TODAY, EVENIN', and SWINGIN' AT NEWPORT, which is something else again.

A fabulous album, pressed in Japan: In a cover without fault; record is near mint.

For other fine records, TAS picks and hard-to-finds, please see my complete list of offerings here on eBay.
