What do you have when you have one record with some of the Surf Music greats? You have a rare recording that wasn't sold in the record stores. Here are The Beach Boys, Dick Dale, Mr. Gasser, Jerry Cole and The Summer Stocks. This is one of the promotional records that Capitol Records put out every month. Distrubuted to it's sales staff and DJ's around the country for previewing and broadcasting. On those records were excerpts from the albums they were releasing each month. In this case the label reads "EXCERPTS FROM GREAT NEW SURFIN' RELEASES FROM THE SOUND CAPITOL OF THE WORLD SUMMER 1964. FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY NOT FOR SALE." And that's why you never saw this in the record stores. Since I worked at Capitol I was on the distribution list. They probably pressed 1000 copies and I would bet that not that many survived. It was part of a presentation book that had the record in a dust cover and copies of the covers and liners in soft sheet form. Therefore it is not in a regular album and was collated into a presentation book. So you have the record (which I don't think I ever played) copies of 6 soft covers and 5 liners. It appears to be in pristine condition but I haven't played it. The covers and liners were pulled out of the book for whatever reason and the spine holes trimmed off. But the graphics are all in good shape. Included on this record are the following cuts:

Side Two: THUNDER WAVE - Dick Dale And His Del-Tones / SURF AGE - Jerry Cole And His Spacemen / LITTLE FINKS SURF AGAIN - Mr. Gasser And The Weirdos / MIDNIGHT RUN and SURF ROUTE 101 - The Super Stocks / GLORY WAVE - Dick Dale And His Del-Tones / RACING WAVES - Jerry Cole And His Spacemen / LITTLE HONDA - The Beach Boys.
The Albums represented are The Beach Boys All Summer Long - Surfink! Featuring Mr. Gasser - Surf Route 101 by the Super Stocks featuring Gary Usher - Surf Age with Jerry Cole - Summer Surf with Dick Dale - Rods n' Ratfinks Featuring Mr. Gasser. The record number is PRO2658 on side 1 and PRO2659 on side 2. PRO indicates promotional and the lack of an "S" indicates it is a High Fidelity Recording.
