Nice copy of this increasingly hard to find UK mono 1st pressing from 1966 on Capitol Records.
Seminal Beach Boys album, the band's 11th studio release - lukewarm reaction originally in the US but critically acclaimed over here, it wasn't too long before it was being hailed as one of the most influential albums in history.
It has been re-issued and re-pressed a bewildering number of times across all formats and genuine early pressings are becoming difficult to locate.

Vinyl: VG+ It's a nice clean copy - obviously handled and played with plenty of superficial surface marks but still retains a nice lustre and sheen. Play-tested and reproduction is really good. There's some light crackle and hiss on the run-ins and on the dead-wax between tracks but any minor flaws are almost completely lost behind the audio track. There is a visible surface mark on side 1 that straddles tracks four and five. It does result in a slight audible pop at the start of track 5, but it only lasts for 3 or four revolutions. The rest of the album plays through without any jumps or scratches.
The labels are the black Capitol company design with silver label text and the rainbow-coloured rim-band. The Capitol "Dome" logo sits at the 9 o'clock position on the label and the words "Long Playing High Fidelity" are printed from bottom to top, bisecting the oval logo, to the left of the spindle hole. The tax letters KT appear embossed either side of the spindle hole on side 1. The labels are clean and free from scuffs, stains and blemishes but carry signs of spindle-wear.
Sleeve: VG+ Good shape for its age. Laminated flip-back card sleeve with the San Diego Zoo photo-design on front cover. The rear cover is unlaminated, plain white with track-listing and black & white photo montage. Structurally, the sleeve is intact with no splits or tears. The laminate has some light creasing but hasn't torn. There is minor wear at the opening edge but the other three edges are remarkably clean and crisp. The flip-backs are all securely stuck down. The unlaminated areas on the rear cover show some signs of age-discolouration and there is evidence of ring-wear. Print-finishing by Garrod & Lofthouse.
It's a good honest copy of a genuine rarity & collectors item.
Not mint, near mint or excellent by RC grading standards, but comfortably sits in the VG+ category. If it was in NM or Ex condition, it would easily be attracting sums in the three-figure bracket, but it is what it is - a classic album that has been played and enjoyed.
It is 51 years old - not quite as old as me - but I'd wager it's in better shape!!
