READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

Beatles 1964 LP Beatles’ Second Album “I Call You Name” Error in Shrink, EX/NM!

NOTE: When I purchased this LP in 2003, I emailed Bruce Spizer, because this very scarce label variation did not appear in his volumes on Capitol albums.  This auction includes a printout of that correspondence. 

The Post Script in his response was a request to me, so I guess I’m fulfilling that now, over 20 years later.

That’s what you get Bruce, for not crediting me!

Vinyl--- EX/NM.  Side 1 has two very light lines.  The first one is barely visible.  See photo.  Side 2 looks unplayed.

Plates--- A3/A3.  Definitely first pressing plates with the best sound quality.  Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.

Cover--- EX.  Light dirtwear under the shrink on both sides.  Shrink did a great job, retaining the color separation between the white border and the cream-colored front slick.

Breathe Holes--- There is one breathe hole on the front cover, just above the thin black line below the “Full Dimensional Stereo logo.

There are two breathe holes on the back cover, near the bottom.  One is just below the “Welcome the Beatles” photo to the right of the “Meet the Beatles” album cover.  The other is due right, in the last photo.  Interestingly, neither of those breathe holes were fully punched through.

Labels--- NM/NM.  Both labels look 1964-brand new.  NO SPINDLE MARKS.

** “I Call Your Name” is listed as “I Call You Name.”  Only a very few examples have been verified to exist.

**There are running times for all titles, except “I Call You Name.”

**Side 1 label retains the earlier cobalt blue dome and perimeter text.  Side 2 label has the new 1964 silverish-white dome logo.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG+.  Would be a NM sleeve, with the exception of a ¼-inch split at the bottom center seam.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: 3

If you’re a Beatles collector, this LP might be too good to give as a gift.  Get this one for yourself, as you won’t find another one in this condition.  Ever.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
