They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles 1969 White Album LP RAREST Apple Label Columbia Pressed “Mfd. By” on Side 2!

No, no. 

This pressing is MUCH rarer than the 7 errors pressing.  I’ve seen dozens of 7 error pressings over the last 5 decades, but I have only seen two of these in my life. 

This is the impossible Columbia consignment pressing with its own in-house label font.  This copy is the rarer 1969 issue, which was released in the very late numbered White Album covers.  This cover’s number exceeds 2 million, 600 thousand.  1970 copies were issued in covers without serial numbers, but had “The Beatles” embossed.

I have had collectors argue that they think this pressing is Canadian, but I don’t think so. 

**1. Every Canadian White Album pressing that I’ve seen on the Apple label from 1969 and 1970 looks similar to the U.S. first pressing, with the exception that the title, “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” is center-justified. 

**2. There is one Canadian pressing with the concentric ring in the same position as this copy, however, it is far closer to RCA’s deep trench.  See compere photo.

**3. The vinyl quality of this pressing is completely different to Canada’s thick vinyl stock from the 60’s.  This copy has thin and very flexible vinyl stock, which Canada didn’t use until the mid-70’s.  In fact, if you happen to own a copy of the Columbia pressing of 1969’s “Yellow Submarine” LP with the LA labels, that vinyl stock is the same as this copy.

**4. These label backdrops are unmistakably LA’s bright green labels that would have been sent to Columbia’s pressing plants.  Canada has always printed their own labels with a much higher level of gloss than the U.S. ever used throughout the 60’s.

**There are far too many similarities to Columbia consignment pressings that at the same time are far too different from Canadian pressings for me to consider that this pressing is out of Canada.

This is the copy that is pictured in my two-volume set of books on U.S. pressings of Beatles albums on flash drive, available now for a limited time.

Vinyl--- EX/EX. VG+/EX.  Sides 1, 2 and 4 look gorgeous nearly new.  Just tiny little imperfections on all of those sides.  Side 3 has some unfortunate small scuffs in a concentrated area of the vinyl.  They can’t be felt with the fingertip, and they are no more than soft.  They just look slightly ugly.

Plates--- All four sides have the “Mastered by Capitol” machine stamp.  All four sides have small hand-etched letter “O’s” similar to Jacksonville plates.  All four sides have the catalogue number, “SWBO 101.”  Apart from side one, all the other sides have “Record I” and “Record II” designations.  And for some reason, side 4 has an A7 plate.

Cover--- VG+.  Wow.  Visually, this looks like a very nice cover.  There really is minimal dirtwear and NO RINGWEAR, if you can imagine that.  Front and back covers have a pretty easy 95% full gloss.  As collectors know, over time, this cover dulls as well as loses spine gloss from handling.  Not this cover.

The only flaws are that first, both front and back covers have some pock marks and light indented scratches at the bottoms.  And for some reason, they have nearly identical patterns.  Can’t imagine what caused that.

And secondly, the top pocket seams are both split about two inches at the top right.  Other than that, this cover is a beauty.

Gatefold--- VG+.  Also full gloss.  Minimal dirtwear and one very small spot.  NO CENTER SEAM SPLITS.

Labels--- NM/NM. NM/NM.  All four labels look 1969-brand new and freshly printed up.  NOT ONE SINGLE SPINDLE MARK AMONG ALL FOUR SIDES.

Photos--- NM/NM/NM/EX.  Paul’s photo has a few light finger divots.  Other than that, these photos look as fresh and glossy as they did in 1969.  Printed onto heavy card stock, high gloss.  The “Printed in U.S.A.” circle appears at the bottom lefts of each.

Poster--- VG+.  High gloss poster has a light to moderate amount of finger divots.  Light dirtwear on the front, light to moderate yellowing on the back.  Just one crease has torn less than half an inch, but that tear also attracted some dirtwear. The “Printed in U.S.A.” circle appears at the bottom left corner.

Apple Inner Sleeves--- VG+. Generic white inner sleeves with die-cut hole for the labels to show are present.  Both sleeves have light wrinkles and have yellowed over the 5 decades.  NO SEAM SPLITS.

Generic inner sleeves will be provided, so as not to damage your original Apple inner sleeves en route.

I really hate to let this one go.  But it’s time to put this gem into the hands of another serious collector, who will cherish it as much as I have!

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
