I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…

RARE PROMO copy, never released to the public.

In the 1974 interview, “George Harrison, The Dark Horse Interview,” when asked about this track, his response was, “well, there’s a lot of people these days, putting out smoochy holiday songs.  This is mine.” 

That had to be a swipe at Lennon’s “Happy Xmas,” and “The Phil Spector Christmas Album.”

Sleeve:  EX.  Issued in a company straight-cut Apple sleeve to radio stations.  This sleeve is a gorgeous example.  NO SPLITS.  Flat and razor-sharp edges.  Has extremely light serration outdents from the 45.  Only two or three have turned just the slightest white, the rest blend in to the black gloss.  Some very slight loss of slick to the seams, not much.  The sparklies in the photos are not dust.  That’s the reflection off the glossy surface.  Sleeve looks very much like it did in 1974.

A generic white sleeve will be provided to protect your company sleeve during shipping.

Vinyl: VG/ EX.  This copy will make an excellent first copy, or even a keeper for those who can’t afford these promos.  The only issue is that there is a moderate heat warp to the lip of the 45.  My notes say that this warp makes a “whoosh” on just the rotations of the intro groove, sounds for just one or two rotations, and then vanishes completely into the music, both sides.  Had this heat warp not been there, the disc would have easily graded EX/ NM.

Labels: NM/ NM.  Beautiful Los Angeles labels with the white Apple labels.  Both labels state “NOT FOR SALE.”  Both labels have the black star.

Plates: H1/ H1.  Side 1 dead wax has the PRO prefix, designating this side as the MONO mix.  Side 2 dead wax has the SPRO prefix, designating that side as the STEREO mix that was released to the public on both the 45 and LP releases.  Machine-stamped asterisk in the dead wax makes this a Los Angeles pressing, who pressed the majority of Capitol and Apple promo copies.

It’s definitely going to take a long while before another of these comes up for sale.  Might as well grab this one while you wait if you’re a picky collector like me.  And if not, this one could easily be a keeper!

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

Note:  All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.
