Beatles 45 PS Strawberry Fields Forever with 2 Different First Press Label Variations

I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…

For auction this week are several Beatles picture sleeves which feature two different first pressing 45 label variations.  The second variation discussed will always be the harder one to find.

Have fun with them this week!

Strawberry Fields Forever/ Penny Lane

Sleeve:  STRONG, NICE VG+.  Both sides have fresh colors and minimal wrinkles and finger divots.  Light record outdent and ringwear, not bad at all.  ¼ inch bottom seam split.  Straight-cut east coast sleeve.

Running time 3:00 on B-side.  This running time actually coincided with the promo copies, which famously had an extra 3 seconds of trumpet.  Millions of these sold upon release.

Vinyl:  EXCELLENT, both sides.  So close to unplayed-looking, but no cigar.

Labels:  Apart from the name, “Gold” written on both sides in ballpoint, the labels look 1967-new.

Plates:  G4/ F5.  Machine-stamped triangle with the letters “IAM” inside make this a Scranton pressing.

Running time 2:57 on B-side.

As with the “Maclen Music, Inc.” credit on the “A Hard Day’s Night” label and the “Starkey” addition to the song’s writing credits on “What Goes On,” the 3:00 running time was changed to the corrected 2:57 very late in the first run pressings, probably going into 1968.

The ratio of the 2:57 labels to the 3:00 labels is very wide.  You can find these, but with a lot of patience and time.  (And for some reason, they’re always in hammered condition.)

Vinyl:  VG+ both sides.  Vinyl shines like new, however, each side has two or three very light scuffs, and then a few angel hairs.

Labels:  NM/ NM.  Full gloss.

Plates:  G4/ G6.  Machine-stamped triangle with the letters “IAM” inside make this a Scranton pressing.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

Note:  All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.

Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)

Check out my other auctions for more hard-to-find vinyl!
