The Beatles – ‘Please Please Me’/Ask Me Why – Extremely rare 1963 UK 1st pressing on the red & silver Parlophone labels - 45-R 4983. Dating to on or before the original release date of 11th January 1963 and most likely pressed on the very first day of production.
This rare UK 1st pressing has early stampers from the 1st mother and rare MPT tax code.
During the initial pressing run, production switched almost immediately from the red & silver Parlpophone labels (which had been used since 1958) to the silver & black labels.
Unlike LP’s, singles were treated differently, often taken to parties and stacked on mono turntables amongst a selection of other single records. For this reason their condition usually suffered and they quickly became worn out. It is therefore very tough to find a copy in such wonderful condition as this one.
Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17217-1N & 7XCE 17218-1N
Stamper codes: 1/GT & 1/M (First mother
Tax code: MPT tax code (visible on run outs to side one & two)
Happy Bidding and good luck!

CONDITION
Disc
Visual: EXCELLENT
Not only is it incredibly hard to find a red label version of this record but virtually impossible to find a copy in above VG condition. The vinyl on this copy is in truly excellent condition still retaining much of its original freshness with only the occasional light surface mark. The disc lies 100% flat on the turntable.
Labels: EXC+ to MINT-
A great set of red & silver Parlophone labels. The silver text still retains its original freshness and is completely unworn. There are probably 3 or 4 light spindle trails to side one with side two bearing a few more. The ultra rare MPT tax code is visible on side two. There is no writing or personalisation to either label and the area around the spindle holes on side one and two is completely unworn.
Audio:MINT-
A truly wonderful sounding disc of this very early UK 1st pressing. There is no groovewear or distortion to any of the music signals. John’s harmonica is breathtakingly clear with a sonic presence only heard on such early pressings. Side one is flawless and grades at or around MINT. Side two grades at MINT minus.
Cover
EXC+ to MINT-
Original harlequin Parlophone sleeve still in fresh condition.
