Beatles 45 Please, Please Me Vee Jay 581 w/pic sleeve

This is the 1964 Beatles 45 Please, Please Me/From Me To You.  In 2009 a copy of this this record in Near Mint condition was valued at $500.00.  This record is in VG+ condition.  Record is still black and glossy.  There are scuffs on both sides visible under bright light and some scratches that can bee seen but not felt.  I have play tested the album and the sound is clean, with no pops and no skipping or surface noise.  There is no ring wear on either side of the label, but there is a scratch through the lettering on side A and also a small scratch on the label on side B (see pictures)  The sleeve is also VG+  There is some slight ring wear on both sides from housing the record, and some discoloration where the ring wear circle shows.  There are no creases and there is some minor wrinkling on the top left corner of the back.  There is a minor stain on the word "me" on the back label as well.  There are a few tiny (less than a 16th of an inch) pieces missing on the top right corner on the front of the label and a small green (ink or pencil?) line between the E and S of the word Beatles.  (See pictures for a close up look or e-mail me and I will use my macro lens to send you photos of any areas you have questions about)  This is a rare album to find in such good condition with a sleeve in equally good condition.  Definately VG+.  This is just one of many Beatles 45's (with and without picture sleeves) that I will be listing this week.  Thanks for looking!

 A brief definition of condition.  All records are graded using the Goldmine grading guide.

NM = Near Mint.  A good description of a NM record is "it looks like it just came from a retail store and it was opened for the first time."  In other words, it's nearly perfect.  Many dealers won't use a grade higher than this, implying (perhaps correctly) that no record or sleeve is ever truly perfect.  NM records are shiny, with no visible defects.  Writing, stickers or other markings cannot appear on the label, nor can any "spindle marks" from someone trying to blindly put the record on the turntable.  Major factory defects also must not be present; a record and label obviously pressed off center is not Near Mint.  If played, it will do so with no surface noise.  (NM records don't have to be "never played"; a record used on an excellent turntable can remain NM after many plays if the disc is properly cared for.)  NM picture sleeves have no creases, ring wear or seam splits of any kind.  It should look as if it never housed a record.  This is a great reason to remove your 45s from their picture sleeves and keep them seperate.  Just keeping the 45 inside the sleeve will cause damage that can reduce the grade of the sleeve.  These are high standards, and they are not on a sliding scale.  A record or sleeve from the 1950's must meet the same standards as one from the 1990's or 2000's to be Near Mint!  It's estimated that no more than two to four percent of all records remaining from the 1950's and 1960's are truly Near Mint.  This is why they fetch such high prices, even for more common items.  Do not assume your records are Near Mint.  They MUST meet these standards to qualify!

VG+ or E = Very Good Plus or Excellent.  A good description of a VG+ record is "except for a couple minor things, this would be Near Mint."  Most collectors, especially those who want to play their records will be happy with a VG+ record, especially if it is toward the high end of the grade (sometimes called VG++ or E+) .  VG+ records may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience.  Slight warps that do not affect the sound are okay.  Minor signs of handling are okay too, such as telltale marks around the center hole, but repeated playing has not misshapen the hole.  There may be some very light ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable.  VG+ picture sleeves should have only minor wear.  There might be some very light creasing where it is obvious that a record once resided (or still does reside).  A VG+ picture sleeve might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the sleeve's most vulnerable location.

VG = Very Good.  Many of the imperfections found on a VG+ record are more obvious on a VG record.  VG records have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape.  They lack most of the original gloss found on a factory-fresh records.  Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail.  When played a VG record has surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and ending.  But the noise will not overpower the music otherwise.  Minor writing, tape or a sticker can detract from the label.  Many collectors who have jukeboxes will use VG records in them and not think twice.  They remain a fine listening experience, just not the same as if it were in better shape.  VG picture sleeves will have many signs of human handling.  Ring wear in the middle of the sleeve, where the raised label would reside is obvious, though not overwhelming.  Some more creases and folds might be visible.  Seam splitting will be more obvious; it may appear on all three sides, though it won't be obvious upon looking.  Someone might have written on it or stamped a price tag on it too.

G, G+ or VG- = Good, Good Plus or Very Good Minus.  Good does not mean bad!  The record still plays through without skipping, so it can serve as filler until something better comes along.  But it has significant surface noise and groove wear, and the label is worn, with significant ring wear, heavy writing, or obvious damage caused by someone trying to remove tape or stickers and failing miserably.  A Good to VG- picture sleeve has ring wear to the point of distraction, has seam splits obvious on sight and may have even heavier writing, though you don't often see picture sleeves with, for example, huge radio station letters written across the front to deter theft.

Shipping Policies:  I ship everything within the states either USPS First Class Mail or Priority Mail.  Worldwide shipping is available and I will work to try to save you money on those costs.  (If you are outside the states, and have a leading bid, your best bet is to e-mail me to find out what shipping would be to you.  If you do not e-mail me and win the auction and are not satisfied with the shipping cost, you still have to pay for the item and shipping.  Know what you are getting into beforehand.  Thanks)  If you win more than one of my auctions within the same week, I will be more than happy to combine shipping costs.  I will not ship until payment has been recieved and has cleared my bank account.  After payment clears, I will ship within 2-5 days, depending on the day of week the auction closes.

Return/Refund Policies:  I will refund money for an item only if it was grossly misrepresented in my auction.  If it is truly not what I claimed it to be, ship it back to me and I will return your funds (minus a 25% restocking fee).   Items damaged in shipping are non-returnable.  This is why I require shipping insurance on all items.  That way, if item is damaged in transit, it becomes you and the Post Office's problem, not mine.
