Beatles 45 Tollie 1964 Twist and Shout, Very First Pressing Label Variation, EX!
I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…
The following are the markings for the very first pressing of the “Twist and Shout single:
**Green Tollie logo in Vee Jay brackets
**Green text
**Catalogue number is listed simply as “9001,” rather than as “Tollie 9001” or “T-9001.”
**Side 1 label has a raised ridge around the playhole. None of the other variations have this ridge. If the ridge is missing, it isn’t a first pressing.
**Side 2 label misspells “Gil Music” as “Gill Music.” The error was corrected on all subsequent label templates.
**Not to be confused with the second label variation which is identical to this one, except that the Tollie logo and text are in black. There is no raised label ridge on side 1, although since the labels were printed from the same templates, Side 2 has the “Gill Music” error.
See compere photo.
Vinyl: EX/EX. Apart from just a few very light lines per side, this copy looks very like what you would have seen in the record bin in 1964. Beautiful copy!
Plates: Machine-stamped “MR” in a circle makes this copy pressed by Monarch Records. Also has the hand-etched delta that precedes the catalogue number on each side.
Labels: EX/EX. Side 1 label has some light dirtwear on the raised ridge.
Sleeve: NM Generic white sleeve.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
