Description

THE BEATLES - 'A HARD DAY'S NIGHT'/'THINGS WE SAID TODAY'
This genuine UK DEMO was circulated to select DJs & press contacts just prior to its July 10th 1964 release date

Curiously, and for the first time, a Beatles demo had large red 'A' labels on both sides

Both labels also carry the wording 'DEMONSTRATION RECORD - NOT FOR SALE' and 'The Gramophone Co. Ltd..' rim texts

The 'KT' purchase tax code is present in the centre of the 'A Hard Day's Night' label & in both run-outs

Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17714-1N & 7XCE 17715-1N

  Stamper codes: 1/JR & 2/GG

'JR' stamper codes were reserved for the earliest/demo pressings

The disc is housed within an original EMI, blue & white 'Top Pop' promotional sleeve

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: VERY GOOD

As you can see, both are clean with just a few light scuffs and a faint ghost of a sticker on each.

Visual: GOOD

Both playing surfaces are clean but bear numerous surface marks & hairline scratches consistent with the fair amount of play this copy has received. There is a 1cm 'feelable' mark on the 'Things We Said Today' side but no other similar blemishes.

Sound Quality: GOOD

Despite having been played many times, the sound quality of both tracks remains powerful and exciting. The noticeable background noise on the 'A Hard Day's Night' run in quickly disappears into the power of the track and is not recognizable again until the end of the fading guitar notes. There is slightly more background audible on the intricate 'Things We Said Today' and the aforementioned mark provides a few faint clicks for a few revolutions. There are no jumps, repeats or any other major faults on either side.

Cover: VERY GOOD

A clean example of this rare cover with the only significant fault being a small tear on one side.
