Beatles APPLE 4-Lot 45’s RAREST LABEL VARIATION.

From 1971 to very late 1975, Apple singles had the “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.” disclaimer printed at the bottom of the full-side Apple label.  As collectors know, in October 1975, Apple had added the “All Rights Reserved” disclaimer to (usually) both sides of the Apple 45’s.  These labels were prepared with that “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.” disclaimer also on both sides, with the exceptions of a few titles out of Jacksonville.  But just after the 1971 variation was discontinued, and just prior to the “All Rights Reserved” disclaimer’s appearance, the catalogue was pressed for a very short time in 1975 with the “All Rights Reserved” disclaimer missing AND with the “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.” disclaimer on both sides.  These are very scarce, and after 42 years of collecting, I have most, but not all of the titles in the catalogue in this variation.

The four copies in this lot were my first copies from over the decades.  I’ve since upgraded them to near mint copies for my collection, so that these 45’s are not near mint.  They’re pretty darned good, though.  I don’t collect trash.  The conditions are as follows:

1.  And I Love Her---a very good first copy.  Had it not been for a moderate warp, this copy would have been my keeper.  The 45 plays all the way through with no issues, however for the first few rotations, you do hear a “whiff” sound.  Once the stylus traverses the warp, the 45 plays near mint.

2. I Want to Hold Your Hand---both sides have a small amount of light angel hair scratches, but the 45 retains most of its original shine.

3. Ticket to Ride---this copy was the very first time I’d ever seen the label variation.  Initially, I thought it was a mispress, so I picked it up.  It’s the one in the worst condition at a solid VG.  There are many light scratches to each side, none of which you can feel.  Looks pretty nice under normal room lighting, but put it under a bare bulb and the scratches stand right up.

4. Lady Madonna---as nice as “And I Love Her,” only without the warp.  This one was my keeper for many decades, with only a few light hairlines appearing under a bare bulb.  I recently found my near mint copy which outshined this one by not that much.

All the labels are beautiful, and all the sleeves are about VG except for the “Ticket to Ride” sleeve, which has come unglued on one side.  An easy fix.

If you’re a labels collector, or if you know one, this starter set is for you.  But I will add, good luck finding the rest of the titles in near mint condition.  42 years and counting, and I still need one or two…
