Title: ACROSS THE UNIVERSE/ENGINEERS TEST SIGNALS
Description: Recorded for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) (5Q3-MONO), this version “differs from the album version in that it was mixed a little faster with animal sound overdubs and with backing vocals. Available only to technical and other authorized personnel for the unlimited purpose of testing and review” (Collector’s Frenzy, 2012).
“Written by John Lennon, this was a song that he deemed as one of his best. This had originally been recorded during the "Lady Madonna" sessions, and placed on the side. The Beatles weren't sure what to do with it. They wanted it as a single, then as a B-side, [and] then it was to be used on . . . [an] EP. Because none of these ideas panned out, The Beatles gave this song to the World Wildlife Fund for a charity album” (Collector’s Frenzy, 2012).
When I bought it, I remember researching it afterwards and reading that there were 5000 made. The record seller who sold it to me was not familiar with it and told me “it’s a bootleg.”
Record: VG/VG+ (See photos, as I tried to show how clean the surfaces are.) A little noisy going into the birdcalls at the beginning but cleans right up once the music begins.
