Description
Storage unit find. This is a very rare and original John Lennon "Sings The Great Rock & Roll Hits" Roots LP.This is 100% original,NO bootleg, and continuing going up in value every year.Fascinating story behind this LP, and is much rarer than the "Butcher Cover".According to court documents, only 1,270 copies of ROOTS were briefly made available in 1975 thru independent TV stations..The "Butcher"LP printed roughly 750,000 before the recall, then tens of thousands of the paste over"Trunk" covers were sent out. The story behind this "ROOTS" LP is:when Lennon wrote "Come Together" there were a couple of lines used from Chuck Berry's hit "You Can't Catch Me" and was sued for infringement. As part of the settlement Lennon agreed to record some songs on Morris Levy's mail-order label ADAMS VIII Ltd. Eventually, the court ruled no agreement existed and Capitol/Apple had the brief ads stopped. There are many many FAKE copies out there that are being sold as ORIGINAL.Look for the signs and do your home work on this rare LP.Here are a few signs to tell:The out side edge of the jacket has "GREAT" instead of "GREATEST".If you can NOT see John Lennon's pink flesh shoulder on the bottom on cover it's a fake.Because many counterfeits used a slightly enlarged copy for the front cover. If the STEREO letters on bottom right of cover run together its a fake.Original copies have A8018 STEREO plainly printed in separate letters. On the vinyl record ADAM VIII LTD. is printed CLEARLY on front and back,NOT fuzzy. All original copies have the matrix number of A8018A front & A8018B back in cursive lettering with "Joe" and a machine stamp BELL SOUND.The counterfeits do not have this. There are a lot of other signs to,but these are the most obvious. The condition of the cover is nice with some slight edge wear and mild creasing.A ink line mark is on front edge.( see pics). The vinyl is very bright and shiny,in hardly played condition. No surface scratches or scuffs, just some small surface spots. It also comes with inner liner.I am not positive that it is originally part of this record. The fake has a plain white liner.Selling as is and exactly how I found it. S/H will be FREE any where in the world.
