“WALLS AND BRIDGES” LP by John Lennon

This is Apple Records SW - 3416.

This LP was released September 26, 1974.
-
This is the ORIGINAL PRESSING with the CUSTOM GATE-FOLD COVER that has two 4” x 12” sections that open separately.

The cover has Apple Record’s New York address on the back without any mention of ABKCO.

Furthermore, this LP is a “DESIGNATED PROMO” LP due to the PROMO PUNCH HOLE (punched partially through) at the top right corner.

And this LP cover has the UNCOMMON RECTANGULAR MAROON STICKER with WHITE PRINT that reads:
Includes the Hit
WHATEVER
GETS YOU
THRU THE NIGHT

This sticker was adhered to the shrink wrap of some copies of the LP issued and was probably discarded with the shrink wrap when the LP was opened. The sticker on the LP in this auction was adhered directly to the LP cover probably because it is a “Designated Promo” copy.

There is a GREAT story behind “Whatever Gets You Through The Night” on Lennon’s “Walls and Bridges” LP. Elton John had sung on “Whatever Gets You Through The Night” and had made Lennon agree to join him live on stage should the record go to #1. As luck would have it, it did!!! In fact, “Whatever Gets You Through The Night”, turned out to be JOHN LENNON’S ONLY #1 SOLO RECORD IN HIS LIFETIME. So, as a result of that agreement, on November 28th, 1974 John Lennon took to the stage at Madison Square Garden as a guest of Elton John and they performed together this song and 2 others. This LP was released with an 8-PAGE LYRIC BOOKLET and a CUSTOM POSTER-BOARD PHOTO INNER SLEEVE. BOTH ARE INCLUDED!

The COVER is in VG+ CONDITION with very light overall wear. There are a couple of tiny corner pushes and the partially punched “Designated Promo” punch hole. There are a few small ink smudges inside the gate-fold cover at the bottom and on the bottom seam.

The VINYL is GRADED NEAR MINT.

The 8-PAGE LYRIC BOOKLET is NEAR MINT.

The CUSTOM POSTER-BOARD PHOTO INNER SLEEVE would be Near Mint except for the partial “Designated Promo” punch hole at a top corner.
It’s a GREAT John Lennon Apple LP COMPLETE and in GREAT CONDITION to add to your vinyl collection!!
