READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
So with that said…
Beatles LP 1970 Sgt. Pepper in Shrink Toughest Apple Label Variation NM!
The two toughest Apple reissue label variations for the catalogue are the pressings with no “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.” on either side (I’ve verified about 8 titles), and this one, which has the disclaimer on the B-side label.
Beatles albums that were originally issued on the Apple label were issued with this variation in 1970. But the back catalogue of titles from “Meet the Beatles” to “The Beatles” (White Album) are extremely hard to find with the disclaimer on the B-side.
In fact, they are so hard to find that there were some titles thought not to exist.
This is one of them.
Vinyl--- NM/ EX. Side 1 looks unplayed. Side 2 has one extremely light scratch and a light film of some sort. See photos.
Plates--- P16/ P16. Hand-etched Delta symbol in the dead wax makes this a Winchester pressing.
Cover--- NM. Beautiful, well-preserved cover. There is a tear in the shrinkwrap on the back cover that was repaired with a piece of clear tape. A small split in the shrink at the top right corner of the front cover. Very small area of dirtwear to the bottom spine on the back. Otherwise, this cover looks 1970-brand new. Bold colors, snow white border!
Gatefold has never been opened.
Breathe Holes--- There are two breathe holes on the front cover near the bottom. One is over the letter “E” in “BEATLES,” the other is on the breast pocket of the stone man to the right of the drum.
Labels--- Excellent labels. There are a few spindle marks on each side, very light. Otherwise, they are NM.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- EX/NM. Original 1970 inner sleeve is a generic white sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show through. Sleeve has lightly and uniformly yellowed, but there are NO SPLITS.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
