Quality vinyl for the discerning collector

Please check out my other listings for more high end Beatles vinyl.

The Beatles – ‘Beatles For Sale’, ‘Parlophone’ rim labels, ‘Recording First Published …’ with ‘Sold in UK…’ label text, catalogue number PMC 1240. Dating to the original release date of 4th December 1964.

A superb early copy with stunning audio.

When it comes to the mono version of ‘Beatles For Sale’ -1N & -2N matrices were not used. The matrix sequence began at -3N and was used alongside the -4N matrix; most collectors and dealers consider a ‘Beatles For Sale’ -4N matrix copy to be a 1st pressing even though this reasoning is not applied to other Beatles releases. This particular copy however has -3N on both sides, and numerically is the earliest possibly matrix for this UK release and can be safely regarded as a 1st pressing.

Happy Bidding and good luck!

Matrix numbers: XEX 503-3N & XEX 504-3N (-1N & -2N were not used on any UK 1st pressing)

Stamper codes: 3/PT & 3/GGR

CONDITION

Disc

Visual: EXCELLENT+

A superb example of this very early pressing. The vinyl appears unmarked when viewed in strong daylight. When viewed under a strong halogen desklight there are some faint whispy sleeve removal marks. This super heavy duty vinyl lies 100% flat on the turntable. Now Extremely tough to find a  -3N/-3N UK 1st pressing in such condition.

Labels: Side one EXC+ to MINT- Side two EXCELLENT+

A great set of fresh looking labels. Side one has only 2 or 3 spindle trails indicating that side two has hardly been played. Side two has some light spindle trails and shows evidence that it has been played a few more times. All the lettering is fresh and unworn and there is no writing to either label. The KT tax code is visible on side one.

Audio: MINT-

Beatles For Sale is one of the Beatles more acoustic albums and finding an undistorted audio on a UK 1st pressing is not easy. The audio however on this copy has been well preserved. There is no groovewear or distortion to any of the music signals. I detected some light surface noise between some gaps when played at high volume, but the quieter passages, of which there are many, are clear and crisp. Tracks such as Baby’s in Black, No Reply, Every Little Thing and I’ll Follow the Sun, are a joy to listen to. The record does not jump or stick. The are no loud pops or ticks.

Cover

EXC+ to MINT-

Due to its flimsy construction and to the difficulty in removing and placing the record back into the inner gatefold area, it has become one of the hardest of all Beatles covers to find in anything above excellent condition. This original 1964 sleeve is in exceptional condition. There is very little to fault on the front panel, the rear panel has a light laminate crease and some light storage wear. The spine is uncrushed and in pristine condition.

Inner-sleeve EXC

Clean & correct 1964 ‘rice paper’ inner.
