Welcome to 20th Century Collectables
The Beatles – Revolver 1966 – UK 1st STEREO pressing on the yellow & black Parlophone label. Catalogue no. PCS 7009. Dating to August 5th 1966. Comes in its original 1st issue Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve.
On sale here is a respectable UK 1966 STEREO 1st pressing of their masterpiece album ‘Revolver’.
In 1966 mono still vastly out numbered stereo and for every 30 or so copies of 'Revolver' that were sold only 1 or 2 would be in stereo.
By 1969 stereo had finally caught on with the general public and a second wave of stereo pressings were made to meet this new demand. However between 1966 and late 1969 EMI made no label changes; ‘Sold in UK’ label text remained the same, as did the ‘Gramophone’ rim label. EMI were also still using the original YEX 605-1 & YEX 606-1 matrix, so on the surface it would appear that there is nothing to distinguish a 1969 2nd pressing from a 1966 1st pressing.
Because of this many 1969 pressings are now being passed off as original 1966 1st Pressings and so the only true way to determine whether a stereo ‘Revolver’ is from 1966 is by examining the stamping codes. If they have 3 letter digits on the right hand side run-off groove it is extremely likely that it is a 1969 pressing. This copy however has one of the earliest set of stamping codes and can be positively dated to the initial release date of 5th August 1966.
In the last 5 years there has been a significant drop in the availability of pre-66 Stereo UK 1st pressings and so original UK stereo's from this period offer a good investment potential.

Audio: EXCELLENT
An excellent sounding copy with only minor deterioration to the sound quality.
Visual: VERY GOOD
This copy has been played many times and has various surface marks visible under strong daylight, however all the marks are light and superficial and none are feelable. There are no deep scratches.
Labels: VERY GOOD+
A decent set of labels with spindle trails and some storage marks. All the text is unworn and there is no writing to either label.
Cover
VERY GOOD
An original 1966 1st issue Garrod & Lofthouse STEREO sleeve, showing signs of general wear. All flipbacks are intact.
Inner-sleeve Excellent
Clean & correct ‘PATENTS APPLIED FOR’ and ‘MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN’ inner sleeve. There is a touch of light handling creasing. There are no seam splits or tears.
