READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

This week, there are 15 original pressings that other sellers had graded as NM, but fell more into the strong VG+ to Excellent range.  A few really do have NM vinyl.  Those happen to be duplicates in my collection.  Covers are mostly “meh.”  Average damage.

Beatles LP Hear The Beatles Tell All LEGIT 1964 Vee Jay LP MONO EXCELLENT VINYL!

These things are like hen’s teeth! (Plastic, round, hole in the middle...)

Issued in the late summer months of 1964, this was the last thumbing of the nose at Capitol Records.  Vee Jay had exclusive rights to these tapes, and this album was issued while The Beatles were on tour.  Capitol had to scramble to block the sales of this album by issuing their own 2-album set in time for the Christmas season, which was of course, “The Beatles’ Story.”  It apparently worked.  “The Beatles’ Story” sold half a million, and this one quietly went out of print.

There were two bootlegged versions that were issued, bookending the 1970’s.  In the early 70’s, a bootleg went out that had an all-black label with the Vee Jay logo in brackets.  Then in early 1981, the most common bootleg was issued with the colorband, and an oversized Vee Jay logo in brackets.  These were also issued in STEREO covers, marking them for easy identification as fakes.

These two issues watered down the pool of availability for the legitimate issue, which has all the markings from Vee Jay that we have come to rely upon to make the determinations of legitimacy.

Vinyl--- EXCELLENT/NM.  Both sides shine like they are NM with the exception of one light scratch across the label on one side that extends into the playing surface about half an inch.  It is non-feelable, and is little more than a thin scuff.

Plates--- 64-6608/ 64-6609.  The John Lennon interview is designated as Side 1.  Both dead waxes have the machine-stamped “MR” in a circle (Monarch Records) as well as the hand-etched Delta symbol preceding the number 7109 and 7109X.

Cover--- VG+.  Structurally solid, NO SPLITS.  Light ringwear on the back, uniform yellowing lightly to the rest of the cover.  Spine has text, cover is for MONO, making this cover absolutely legitimate.

Labels--- NM/ EXCELLENT.  Side 1 label has the light scratch, side 2 looks like it was just printed.  Labels retain the promo catalogue number, “VJLP 202 PRO.”  Later copies made this release a commercial LP by dropping the “PRO.”

Gorgeous copy.  This one is not only your keeper, it will be the envy of your collector friends, because they’ll all have the bootlegged versions as fillers.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
